Eric Schmidt shows off a Nexus S at the Web 2.0 summit, says Gingerbread coming in ‘next few weeks (updated with more pics)

We knew Eric Schmidt would be doing something surprising at the Web 2.0 summit, and the man didn’t disappoint — he just showed off the Nexus S running on T-Mobile, and revealed it has NFC features, a technology he thinks will eventually replace credit cards. Unfortunately, he also called it an “unannounced phone” from an “announced manufacturer,” and the logo was taped over, so we’re not any closer to a release date here.Schmidt said Gingerbread would be out in the “next few weeks,” so we’re assuming this unannounced phone would be getting it.

There’s a glossy plastic bezel up front housing an AMOLED screen, a pair of discrete volume buttons on the left side, and a black plastic back (textured similarly to the BlackBerry Bold, though patchier) which seemed too roughly manufactured to be anything but a prototype. We saw the handset for all of three seconds and weren’t able to snap a single picture nor touch it for ourselves, but as Schmidt walked away he left us with one last lingering look at Gingerbread — the screen shutting off. When he pressed the power button, the image winked out like an old CRT TV, an animation which you’ll see a carbon copy of right after the break.

You might think that massive Google logo on the back would imply stock Android and you’d be right — we’re told it’ll be a nearly untouched representation of the Google OS, though it’s still not clear which version it’ll be. We’ve also spotted a front-facing camera on the front, while the innards include microSD memory expandability, microUSB connectivity, and a 1500mAh battery. Now whos going for Nexus S ?

Facebook Launches Email Services:Facebook Messages

Posted: 15 Nov 2010 08:59 PM PST

Facebook is one of the most popular social networking sites around the world with  more than 550 million users and it doesn’t stop there. With so much speculations buzzing around the web about their new ” Project Titan ” over the past few days ,yesterday finally facebook  revealed the Project Titan.

Facebook launched a new Email Service rather  you can call it a Social Messaging Service. So we’ll also get to choose a @Facebook.com Email ID  for everyone who wants to use it but you won’t be seeing  subject lines, no cc, no bcc, and you can send a message by hitting the Enter key.

How it Works?

The new Messages interface not only displays the Facebook messages you exchange with friends, but it also interweaves your chats, texts and emails (should you choose to create an @facebook.com address). It's a central place to control all of your private communication, both on and off Facebook.

Now when you view a conversation, you're actually looking at a complete history of all the communication you've shared with that person on Facebook — it's like having an ongoing record of your friendship.

The messages services includes some of features like Attachments ,so you can attach the files from your desktop/laptop computers or pver your smartphone, adding people to group conversation, smart filtering which will allow to filter the messages according to your preferences and other such features.

It’s an invite only system ,so if you want to use this services  you’ll have to request for an invite and wait till it hits your email. You can start off with that over their about page to get yourself a Facebook Messages Invite.

Update :

Facebook announced a new unified messaging system today and one of the platforms they are showing it off on is iPhone. Expect a application update soon.
