While designing a website, one can make numerous mistakes and blunders than can lead to many problems for the website owner. Some of these common and worst mistakes and blunders that have the greatest affect on websites are listed below.

1. Search Results

At times, search engines affect the usability, as they cannot control typing mistakes, plurals, hyphens or any other problems in the query term. These problems are higher for elderly users; however, many young people are also agitated by these problems.

Additionally, when search engines prefer search results entirely based on the number of query terms included in a link instead of the significance of the document in comparison to the query term, users get more irritated.

It is important to note here that whenever users face problems in navigation, they switch to search. Although advanced search is useful at times, simple search is best. Users are generally looking for a simple layout when it comes to search.

2. Using PDF Files For Online Reading

One of the worst things that could happen to a user trying to read content online is a PDF file. PDF files affect the flow of browsing as simple and easy things become difficult to handle on PDF. This is because on PDF standard commands of the browser do not operate. Additionally, on PDF files, layouts are designed keeping in mind that the document will be printed on a sheet of paper. Most of the time, the size does not match with the size of the browser window and creates problems when the user tries to read the document.

3. Keeping The Same Colors of URLs Already Visited

While searching for content, links form an integral part. Therefore, whenever a person is searching over a search engine, the changing of colors of the links that have already been visited turns out to be a good feature. This allows users to revisit the links that they considered useful previously or eliminate those links that were not as fruitful regarding their query term.

Moreover, when users can distinguish between the pages that they have already visited and those that they have not, they can avoid wasting their time on going through the same link repeatedly.

4. Unappealing Text

Websites that include only text affect the user experience to a great level. It makes the reading process boring and agonizing. Therefore, if you intend to enhance the readers of your content, you need to incorporate tools such as sub headings, lists, highlighted words, short, concise paragraphs and simple and comprehensible language. These tips will significantly enhance the reader's experience in understanding the content.

5. Using Small Font

Most of the times, websites have disabled the feature that allows to change the font size of the website. The font used in these websites is typically very small and affects the reading ability of the user. While designing, websites should keep in mind the needs of elderly users that might have a problem reading extra small sized font.

These mistakes are very simple; however, when online readers come across a website with too much text or small sized font, they get frustrated and switch to a website that has presented the information in a much better manner.

iCloud Communications sues Apple over iCloud name

iCloud Communications sues Apple over iCloud name is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

This had to happen.iCloud Communications has filed suit against Apple for trademark infringement. The lawsuit asks to prevent Apple from using the iCloud name. They also want to have Apple destroy "all promotional materials" referring to Apple's new service.  iCloud Communications is also asking for damages and for Apple's profits made my using the name iCloud.iCloud Communications is saying Apple is ruining their business ever since Apple started marketing the iCloud service.

By looking at iCloud Communications web site, the only products I see are VoIP (Voice over IP) products and services. Apple's iCloud product does not appear to have any VoIP components.

There could possibly be some name confusion, and doing an internet search on iCloud does not come up with any references to iCloud Communications in the first ten pages on Google. This could be damaging to iCloud Communications' by preventing potential customers from easily finding them.In the future, Apple could start to offer VoIP services and then there would definitely be a potential problem.

Here is the settlement scenario

Apple will help iCloud Communications rebrand itself with each company paying one half of the cost. Since iCloud Communications probably was waiting for this type of scenario when the chose their name, they should pay for half.

To take care of the Google search problem, Apple could pay for a sponsored link that would put iCloud Communications name at the top of the first page. Any click on this link that resulted in a sale by iCloud Communications would earn Apple 3% of the profit on that sale with on-going profit share for the first year.

Now how does that sound ?

HTC Sensation experiencing iPhone 4 Antenna Death Grip situation

HTC Sensation experiencing iPhone 4 Antenna Death Grip situation is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

You remember the shitty death grip and bumper thingy which was there for iPhone 4 right ? Seems the HTC Sensation is also experiencing the same death grip effect. The new HTC Sensation is now becoming a sensation among users for all the wrong reasons. Apple is furious that Android has been “stealing” features from the iOS but they surely wont be complaining about this one. Reports from consumers and independent review sites say that the HTC Sensation tends to lose its signal as well as lose the WiFi and Bluetooth connectivity when it is held in certain ways.

The Death Grip issue with the iPhone 4 had been a pretty major one that forced Apple to release new iPhone bumpers but unlike the iPhone 4 bumpers won’t be able to solve the issue as the root of the problem is quite different in both the cases.

It remains to be seen if HTC can come up with some solution to this problem plaguing their flagship product. Hopefully !! Else there is SGS II icon wink image In the mean time check out the videos.

Apple’s next MacBook Air will be the new flagship Mac

Apple's next MacBook Air will be the new flagship Mac is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

You remember the Apple's refresh of the MacBook Air last fall did great improvement to the fortunes of the company's ultra-slim notebook. With its next iteration, it could be getting ready to step into the spotlight as the quintessential Mac computer. That update is on the way soon, according to a new report, and I'd be surprised if we didn't see it arrive right alongside the operating system that seems tailor-made for it: OS X Lion.

AppleInsider claims that Apple has placed an order for nearly 400,000 new MacBook Airs based on the Intel's new Sandy Bridge processor architecture, and that production will begin in June, according to an analyst report. The reports claim that just over half of those will be 11.6-inch models, since those are slightly more popular with consumers than their 13-inch counterparts. Both models have reportedly been successful sellers for Apple, in stark contrast to the original Air, which was seen by most as too expensive and too far ahead of the curve in terms of its hardware features.

Apple has also done right by Air in terms of finding an attractive price point: The entry-level 11.6-inch model starts at just $999, on par with Apple's other cheapest notebook, the MacBook. If you not aware of the fact, MacBook represents Apple's past; it's a well-designed traditional notebook that provides users looking for an alternative to Windows laptops with a solid, high-quality, OS X-based alternative. But the MacBook Air represents Apple's future. It's a slim, lightweight device with a futuristic design aesthetic, but more importantly, it's a perfect partner for OS X Lion and iCloud, and like Apple said at its WWDC keynote (as enStratus CTO George Reese suggested it should), iCloud is the new center of the Apple universe.

When the updated MacBook Air arrives, it will most likely bring better Core i-series processors that should help it gain even more ground on more powerful Mac notebook offerings, since the current versions use Intel Core 2 Duo chips, which are two generations behind. It will also almost certainly introduce Thunderbolt ports to the Air. Thunderbolt will be a great addition to the Air, since once third-party storage device makers start putting out more compatible drives, it will help alleviate any concerns users might have about onboard storage limitations. Apple might also boost the base storage capacities this time around, as it has already quietly made improvements to the Air's SSD drives that boost read/write speeds.

The MacBook Air has more in common with the iPad than any other of Apple's Mac computers, and that's why it's such a perfect partner for the iOS-inspired OS X Lion update. In fact, you could say that Lion is designed for the Air, and I think that's exactly how Apple sees it, too.

In two years time, if not less, when you think "Mac," you'll think about the MacBook Air first and foremost. And that's by design, as Apple continues to have outsized influence in the changing definition of personal computing.

JailbreakMe 3.0 on its Way ? iPad 2 Jailbreak? New PDF Exploit found by Comex

JailbreakMe 3.0 on its Way ? iPad 2 Jailbreak? New PDF Exploit found by Comex is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

Famous iPhone kernel hacker Comex has teased the arrival of JailbreakMe.Comex has updated web-based untethered jailbreak portal jailbreakme.com which now points to an image hinting at a possible PDF exploit. It is still unclear whether it is an iOS 5 jailbreak or an iPad 2 jailbreak or both. The developer has updated JailbreakMe.com website with an image of snow and skating place with a PDF signboard on the tree.Check out the tweet he did.

comex tweet 184x250 image

Most probably its going to be a jailbreak for iPad 2. Reason is very simple. iOS 4.3.3 is already jailbroken and there is no purpose of releasing another 4.3.3 untethered jailbreak solution. Apple has also released iOS 5 beta for which iPhone Dev Team has already released Redsn0w 0.9.8b1 to jailbreak it, although its tethered. They will wait for Apple to release iOS 5 final version before they release untethered iOS 5 jailbreak. The only device which is left is the iPad 2 which does not have any tethered / untethered jailbreak. So we are guessing it to be an iPad2 Jail break. What do you say?

Comex was quietly working on userland exploit since iPad 2′s launch and even hinted previously about browser based jailbreak method. Those who are unfamiliar, JailbreakMe 2.0 (currently patched by Apple) used the PDF exploit to jailbreak iOS 4.0.1 firmware. User was asked to visit a Web site JailbreakMe.com via mobile safari browser, which hosts an exploit code written by comex to bypass the digital code signatures.

This method can be executed on any device, with both old and new iBoot, Unlike previous methods, JailbreakMe works in a whole new way: you don't need any PC / Mac or cable but just a simple internet connection and Mobile Safari.

This method was so quick and easy that some of them thought of giving a shot inside Apple stores. And yes they actually did it by jailbreaking idevices within stores. Currently, no ETA has been cited so far. We are just waiting for comex to share the details about the new hack. What do you feel ?
