9to5Mac is reporting that , some Verizon iPad 2 units are being recalled to Apple, including devices mid-shipment. If an iPad 2 comes in with a specific serial number, Apple is asking that store employees ship the device back to Apple. Several customers who ordered the iPad 2 have also received "returned to sender" notices from FedEx, too.

Apple has given all the stores a list of serial numbers to scan, if it\'s a match we were told to set aside and ship back to Apple, these are only for Verizon ipads. This was to be done on Monday and continue to scan all shipments thru June 11. I had over one hundred to send back.

9to5mac received numerous tips over the past few hours that Verizon iPads being shipped from China are being being returned to Apple mid-shipment.  It isn't certain why they are being returned but they appear to all be Verizon iPads, engraved and shipped via FedEX.This isn't the first issue Apple has had with Verizon iPads.  Earlier this year, Discussion forums went ablaze with complaints that were later fixed.

Here are some Reader’s quotes

Apple may be having problems with Verizon iPad 2. I was supposed to receive my ipad2 64gb today but all of a sudden fedex sent it back to apple and said that apple requested it\'s return. Apple\'s customer care seems to be unaware or unwilling to acknowledge the problem. I went on the discussion boards on apple.com and there are a number of people discussing the same thing and all posters so far have all ordered Verizon ipad2\'s.

I was in the apple store in Lakeside Mall (LA) and I saw two people coming from back of the store (exiting the stock room) and leaving the store with a cart full of boxes. The boxes had \"verizon 64gb\" and \"verizon 32gb\" written on the outside of them. I assumed they were iPads. This may relate to your story of Apple recalling Verizon iPads. -Rory

I am having the exact problem right now. And it makes no sense that it is Fedex problem, because Apple explained to me that a new one was being sent out. However, my iPad is engraved so they would not make a duplicate, or waste a perfectly good iPad. If Fedex had this problem Apple would fix it right away to avoid customer service problem. There must be a problem with Apple, because Apple would fix a problem with Fedex on the spot to eliminate extra work and cost to them self. I am actually having trouble getting a credit.

Mine is a white, 32GB, Verizon 3G with engraving, Apple just told me they were recalled and that they would be re- ordered and that they were authorized to issue a $ credit. He said I would get an email about it. I think it was Apple's bad. We ordered a black one at the same time and recieved it on Monday, he said that one is fine.

So same bunch of crap is happening to us as we type….ipad2 makes it all they way from CHINA to within 40 miles of our house and they are returning it to the sender!! In Elk Grove! I called Fedex and they said it was an Apple request. Apple says it's a fedex problem – and I quote "why would we ask to return your ipad that you have been waiting for". She went on to say that it should be delivered to us in "1-2 days". I wonder if they weren't hacked or something and a bunch of return to sender requests were sent out. I just can't believe it frankly….

Exactly the same thing happened to me yesterday too!! I got the same response from FedEx, the customer service rep there said the package was flagged "return to sender" several times. I don't believe they even attempted delivery as there was no tag left on my door either! Apple was clueless but did tell me they had a lot of calls from customers with the same problem. He said he'll pass the information on to his manager & a new order will be placed for me. I'm thinking they had tech problems with this batch of iPad units but aren't admitting it! Its frustrating that they won't admit what the problem was. So back to the waiting game I go.

Mine was a black, 64G, Verizion 3G with engraving. I did order the dock & a camera connection kit. These were delivered in less than a week. I just spoke to my FedEx delivery person too. He said he hadn't any package, for me, from Apple yesterday. Interesting!

Apple's Discussion forums are also starting to fill up with similar complaints:

Let us know if you find anything out. I ordered mine early may and yesterday I was thrilled to see it actually say out for delivery! Then I got the delivery exception. Called fedex and heard the same thing you did. Called Apple and they had no clue why just that it would be delivered tomorrow(today). Called fedex again and they assured me that the package was already on it's way back to it's origin. Now this morning my tracking number reads undeliverable, return to sender. So, my 1-2 weeks turned into 3 to ship and it some how took fedex 2 weeks to get it to my city and now this. I wonder how long it will be before I actually see my iPad.

The latest news we have heard is that Apple has beggun giving customers a $50 credit.

I was offered a $50 credit or iPad accessory and told that my iPad would be rerouted back to me.

We thought that  the recall may have been due to FedEx glitches or issues with engraving since most of the people in the discussions had both of those in common.  However, we're now hearing that Apple Store employees are also being told to scan iPad 2s and if they are a certain serial number allotment, to send them back to Apple.

Apple has given all the stores a list of serial numbers to scan, if it's a match we were told to set aside and ship back to Apple, these are only for Verizon ipads. This was to be done on Monday and continue to scan all shipments thru June 11. I had over one hundred to send back.

Why is Apple pulling these? The problem appears to be with Verizon duplicating MEIDs.

I bought an iPad2 on Wednesday (6/8) from the Apple Store in Louisville, KY.  It is a 16GB black Verizon 3G edition.  Have been using it for past couple days on wi-fi and went to activate the 3G service on it today.  Had trouble doing it on the iPad, so I called Verizon for assistance.  They told me that there is a batch of iPad2's with duplicate MEID's (which I believe are hardcoded into the device) out there and apparently I have one of them.  Only way to fix is to bring my iPad2 back to the store for exchange to new iPad.  I'm betting that is why people's iPads are getting flagged for return before they even hit their doorstep.  If you get more info on this, would love to hear back from you – wondering if other people are getting told the same thing I was.  Thanks!

Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T makes an intro

Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T makes an intro is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

One of my best Android device Samsung Galaxy S II will  finally hit AT&T? Well, it's coming soon. But not sure when  but thanks to an international Samsung Facebook page, has a series of professional shots of planned accessories, including this “Samsung Galaxy S II Desktop Dock,” a handsome pyramid stand sporting HDMI and 3.5mm stereo-out jacks — and of course, an AT&T logo on its comfortably cradled smartphone.

It looks like the  Samsung Galaxy S II for AT&T has been updated to the carrier's specifications, sporting four Android menu keys and styling similar to the AT&T Infuse 4G. While Samsung's Galaxy S II is available for purchase in the U.S. with AT&T 3G bands, you'd be paying full retail price upwards of $700 as opposed to picking up an AT&T-branded one with a two year agreement for what we're guessing will end up being $199. We better see this soon as we’re slated to see a Galaxy S III by this time next year, after all.

iPad 3 Coming This Year With 2560×1920 Resolution Display?

iPad 3 Coming This Year With 2560×1920 Resolution Display? is a post from: Tech Mania.Check out more of the latest news by Subscribing to feed

Behind the reports of a new mac book air coming at the end of June there was a single sentence nonchalantly stating that the iPad 3 would launch in the fourth quarter of this year with a screen resolution “5-6 times” higher than the iPad 2. I mean how could I believe this fact ?

The numbers seemed absurd so Macrumors tracked down the original Economic Daily News report which only made it sound slightly less unbelievable. Thanks to translation assistance from @wayyuen, @wongwil, @agleung and Micah Fisher-Kirshner, here’s the relevant portion in English:

iPad3 is going to create ultimate screen resolutions

The Apple iPad3 will come out in the fourth quarter. Its panel resolution requirements are five to six times than iPad 2. However, it will require 8 times effort to enhance the production yield. At that time, it will lead other tablet computers into struggle hard in the fourth quarter, Apple will further widen the gap with its competitors.

Apple dominates the tablet computer market in the year of 2010; In 2011, a huge number of tablet computers have been introduced and given a general threat to Apple’s leading status, Apple is thinking to give an aggressive counteroffensive.

In the first quarter before the introduction of iPad 2 , the global tablets makers wait until introduction of iPad 2 in March, they then modify its specifications to match with iPad 2, and delay their own tablet announcement to the second quarter, to hope for a large number of shipments in the second half of the year.

Apple, in order to maintain a leading position, plans to launch iPad 3 in the fourth quarter by shortening the iPad Product life cycle. And also, try to push the screen resolution of iPad 3 to 2560×1920 , which is the ultimate resolution a 9.7 Inch Panel can achieve and doubles "Full HD".
Apple would like to kill the others by surprise of introducing a more advanced iPad 3 when other brands are trying to release iPad2 like products in the second half of 2011. As a result, other factories would never catch up, and Apple will wins again by widening the distance between the competitors.

The production of iPad 2 Panel is difficult, the Taiwan production partners only have 60% yield, which is far from the general requirements – 90%. It results that the iPad2 panel production being monopolized by Korean company – LG monitor (LGD) and Samsung.

The reasoning behind a second iPad update in 2011 is that Apple’s competitors have been purely reacting to the launch of the iPad 2, and while they are ramping up their launches for later this year, Apple plans to trump them again by launching the iPad 3 quickly.

In February before the launch of the iPad 2, both DaringFireball and TechCrunch seemed to believe that Apple would make such a move. DaringFireball wrote at that time:

Thus, my gut feeling is that Apple will move the iPad to a September release schedule, alongside the iPods. But they wouldn’t want to wait over a year and a half from the announcement of the original iPad to announce the second one — not with these stakes, and not with so many serious competitors trying their best to catch up.

Perhaps the most unbelievable part of the story, however, is that Apple might try to reach a resolution of 2560×1920 in the new device. That resolution would be over 6x the number of pixels of the current iPad, and 2.5x the linear resolution in each dimension. The closest display we’ve heard of is Samsung’s announcement of a 2560×1600 10.1″ LCD display in May. Apple has been rumored to be bringing a “Retina” display to the iPad 3, though there has been little talk of it recently. To further add to the doubts, component manufacturers seem to be expecting the iPad 3 to arrive in 2012.

I was not sure on how true this could be but thought I would share this one with you guys.
