References to “Immersive Shell” confirm Windows 8′s tile-based tablet UI – Geeksmack reports Posted: 02 Apr 2011 05:34 AM PDT Geeksmack some digging on the the Windows 8 build 7959 and found out some references to an "Immersive Shell" inside Windows 8.The references point towards Microsoft's secondary interface for Windows 8. The second interface will be used as the primary interaction point for touch based hardware. The existences of Internet Explorer integration, tiles, dock and a notification system have all been confirmed.
The "immersive" experience will include a Metro based user interface according to sources familiar with Microsoft's plans. Microsoft will include a new application model codenamed "Jupiter" that will allow developers to create Silverlight based applications, deployed as AppX packages (.appx). The packages will be part of a new Windows application store, pre-installed with Windows 8. The Redmond giant will be looking to provide an easy way for existing Windows Phone developers to scale their applications for use with Jupiter.Separately, Winreview also posted a number of "Immersive" traces on Friday. The resources appear to confirm some of the Metro UI elements that will make their way into Microsoft's Tablet experience.Check out Geeksmack for more screen shots and info. Microsoft blames at Google saying: Windows Phone 7 Youtube app sucks thanks to Google Posted: 02 Apr 2011 03:48 AM PDT You might be knowing the Microsoft- Google war about whether Google has violated European Competition law.Microsoft's Senior Vice President & General Counsel Brad Smith penned his thoughts on the filing in a blog post. The result is that Microsoft plans to join a number of companies in registering their concerns about the European search market. Google dominates the search market in Europe with around 95% market share. He noted some points
New news is that Microsoft has admitted that its Windows Phone 7 YouTube implementation is lacking "rich functionality" due to Google.Perhaps the most telling and interesting part of the complaint is the revelation that Google is specifically blocking Microsoft from operating properly with YouTube on its new Windows Phones. Microsoft's senior Vice President & General Counsel Brad Smith claims that the search giant has refused to allow Windows Phone 7 the same level of access as iPhone and Android devices.
The revelations show why Microsoft's YouTube implementation is very basic. The company faced fierce criticism of the lack of true YouTube functionality when it first introduced Windows Phone 7 in October. Microsoft says it's seeking permission to access YouTube in the same way others do and hopes that its antitrust filing persuades Google to think differently. Amazon To Introduce 4.3-Inch Dual-Core “Blaze” Smartphone This Summer pics leak Posted: 02 Apr 2011 02:52 AM PDT Amazon is in news and is getting into the Android arena by introducing Appstore and Cloud player, but it looks like they are not done yet,in fact they have just started.AndroidPolice is reporting that company will be launching the Blaze which looks to be a 4.3 smartphone somewhere in August.Up to now, Amazon's forays into Android territory have been purely software-related. With the Blaze, however, the company is adding formidable (and seriously lust-worthy) hardware to the mix – have a look at the phone's spec sheet: * 4.3-inch Mirasol display Amazon has done changes to its design.Amazon has really gone all-out on the Blaze's design – a significant departure from previous products. It's all very streamlined, with a black matte visage and an aluminum battery cover that reportedly “feels just right when held against your face, situated in your pocket, or placed in your hand.”Unlike most other manufacturers, Amazon hasn't abandoned non-touchscreen navigation – the Blaze will feature a roomy D-pad as well as two pairs of previous-/next-page buttons that should come as a welcome addition to avid readers. They have been told the smartphone's rear 5MP camera isn't anything to write home about, though video chat quality with the 1.3MP front-facing imager is apparently quite impressive. What's really mind-blowing, though, is what lies below the cameras – on the front, a 4.3-inch Mirasol display; on the rear, a solar panel. While solar panels on phones past were ugly copper strips, the Blaze's is made of an entirely new material that is – or at least appears to be – as aesthetically pleasing as it is functional when it comes to charging your phone. Considering the Mirasol screen, tiptser from AP says that its not that crispest or brightest mobile display but its unique in its own sense. For example, Mirasol doesn't require any sort of backlighting to display text/images, meaning that it is extremely energy efficient. Additionally, performance in direct sunlight is outstanding, and even tree-huggers have something to rave about – Mirasol significantly reduces carbon dioxide emissions.he handset will serve as the debut device for Blaze UI, Amazon's answer to the HTC Senses and Motorola MOTOBLURs of the world. One of Blaze UI's highlights will be its excellent integration with Amazon services. Everything, from documents on your Cloud Drive to products you've recently purchased from Amazon.com, is accessible from the Blaze in one form or another – in fact, Amazon accounts are said to be as key to the Blaze's user experience as Google accounts are to a regular Android phone. Amazon also plans to spice up Gingerbread's user interface with Blaze UI – page turning animations, for example, are visible throughout the user interface, and the whole operating system now has a more orange look about it. Finally, we have some good news for those of you concerned about fragmentation: Amazon plans to be much more expeditious with software updates than competing manufacturers, and as you've seen so far with the latest product unveiling’s, they can move quite fast. Excited are you.Don't hold your breath – while Amazon engineers are working around the clock to get the device out ASAP, it isn't expected to go on sale until August. On the upside, we're hearing that its price tag will be “highly competitive.” Expect to see a press release and more official details later this month; in the meantime, a leaked product page and a gallery of Blaze-related images lie below Amazon To Introduce 4.3-Inch Dual-Core “Blaze” Smartphone This Summer pics leak is a post from: Tech Mania Related Posts : |
Nvidia to unlock SLI for AMD 990 series chipsets Posted: 02 Apr 2011 01:39 AM PDT Good news for AMD fellas.AMD enthusiasts had to resort to unofficial patches to make SLI work on their boards but not anymore. NVIDIA has finally agreed to make their SLI technology available for AMD 9-series chipsets boards supporting the Zambezi processors based on Bulldozer architecture. But only 990FX and 990X will be supported though so no luck for 7 and 8 series boards owners. AMD 990FX is able to support 2 PCIe x16 slots or 4 PCIe x8 slots so it can run 2-way (2 x16) or 3-way (3 x8) while AMD 990X is able to support only 2-way SLI (2 x8). There is no indication whether AMD 970 can support SLI at this point of time. The AMD 9-series launch is expected to be sometime in May so look out for it. Posted: 02 Apr 2011 01:15 AM PDT You might be knowing that Chrome and Safari continue to gain share of worldwide usage while IE and Firefox continue to lose.Until recently in February 2011 the statistics shifted a little because of updated population figures changed how much some countries were weighted.Despite arriving a week later, Firefox 4 is outpacing Internet Explorer 9 in real-world use so far, new statistics show.Microsoft released IE9 on March 14, and Mozilla’s Firefox 4 arrived on March 22–both brand-new even by the fast-moving standards of today’s software market. By month’s end, IE9 accounted for 1.0 percent of browsing activity worldwide, according to statistics from analytic firm Net Applications. Firefox 4, though, reached 1.7 percent, despite its later start. Firefox 4 has a big advantage in usage statistics over IE9: Windows XP. Mozilla’s browser works on the decade-old operating system, but IE9 requires a minimum of Windows Vista SP2 or Windows 7. Given that Windows XP machines represent 54.4 percent of the usage on the Internet right now to Windows 7′s 24.2 percent and Vista’s 10.6 percent, Windows XP is a big ally even if the growth is with Windows 7. IE9 has injected a massive dose of new competition into the browser market.IE 9 supports a raft of new Web standards, hardware acceleration and offers much higher performance than its predecessors. But IE still isn’t the browser of the technophiles, so it’s reasonable to expect IE9′s usage to trail that of Firefox.Expect usage of both to increase more when people are actively encouraged to update. As for Microsoft, “Internet Explorer 9 will not be broadly rolled out on Windows Update until the end of June,” said Ryan Gavin, senior director of IE business and marketing, Courtesy Windowsteamblog When all versions were taken into account, IE still leads the overall market with 55.9 percent of usage in March, with Firefox in second place at 21.8 percent. Only IE, though, ceded share to the up-and-coming browsers in the market right now, Google’s Chrome and Apple’s Safari.IE dropped 0.9 percentage points from February to March, while Firefox staved off the rivals with a 0.1 percentage point gain. That’s not much, but it’s a stronger showing than the steady losses that Firefox has experienced since reaching its high-water mark of 24.7 percent of usage in November 2009. Chrome continued its steady rise, from 10.9 percent to 11.6 percent. Safari rose from 6.4 percent to 6.6 percent. And fifth-place Opera stayed level at 2.2 percent for both February and March.Net Applications’ statistics are based on the activity of about 160 million visitors per month to Web sites using its services. It adjusted its technique slightly for February’s statistics after the U.S. government released new per-country Internet usage statistics that the company factors into its results. For example, IE got a small boost in February because it’s widely used in China, which showed higher Internet usage, while Firefox slipped a bit.
