Fujitsu’s  showcase Windows 7 tablets in the CEATEC conference.Fujitsu’s Windows 7 tablet prototypes are much more practical in design than some of its other concepts it’s shown at CEATEC from years past. And yet, the pair of slates were still relegated to behind glass enclosures and just stickers for screens, which leaves us with little to say but a lot to show for it. So let’s get in with the show: pictures below(Courtesy Engadget ).

Japanese firms come up with a Android based Robot -RIC Android

Posted: 07 Oct 2010 03:26 AM PDT

I knew Android was the future and here is one more evidence for that.RT Corp and Brilliant Service Co Ltd exhibited an Android-based robot at Google Developer Day 2010, which took place Sept 28, 2010, in Tokyo, Japan.According to the two companies, the robot, “RIC android,” is the world’s first robot whose control software all runs on Android. The RIC android was developed based on RT’s “RIC (robot inside character)” robot, which is used in a stuffed animal suit. The RIC android wears a suit of Droid, a character for Android. It can walk with two legs and move its hands and head.

This comes equipped with speakers, the RIC android can produce synthetic sounds and play music. It does not move autonomously, and commands have to sent to the robot via a wireless LAN.”We wanted to create a service using both a robot and a cloud by exploiting the high affinity of cloud services and Android,” said Yoshihiko Sugimoto, president of Brilliant Service.

For example, he plans to offer a service of delivering motion data such as motions of a specific entertainer and choreography created for a specific song and charging for the data. Also, he is considering analyzing video and audio data obtained by using a camera and microphone of a robot, storing such information in cloud networks and using it for services.

RT and Brilliant Service intend to develop a system that can extend the robot’s functions by delivering motion data to it by April 2011.This time, the two companies introduced the RIC android, which can be used in events, etc, as a first step to provide such services. They plan to rent the RIC android to other companies for a price starting from ¥525,000 (approx US$6,266) per day, expecting it to be used for promoting the sales of Android-based devices.

Verizon iPhone coming for sure, beginning of 2011 -WSJ

Posted: 07 Oct 2010 03:10 AM PDT

There were reports of iPhone which were going to powered by Qualcomm chips coming to Verizon some where close to 3rd quarter of 2010 but that turned out to be false. The Wall St. Journal today reports that a Verizon iPhone is coming within the next two months and will be distributed early next year:

Apple Inc. plans to begin mass producing a new iPhone by the end of 2010 that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smartphone early next year, said people briefed by Apple. The new iPhone would be similar in design to the iPhone 4 currently sold by AT&T Inc. but would be based on an alternative wireless technology called CDMA used by Verizon, these people said. The phone, for which Qualcomm Inc. is providing a key chip, is expected to be released in the first quarter of next year, according to the same people. Separately, Apple is also developing a new iPhone model, said people briefed on the matter. One person familiar with the new iPhone plan said the fifth-generation iPhone will be a different form factor from those that are currently available. It was unclear how soon that version will be available to Verizon.

PED at Fortune notes some irregularities:

But in this week's item — as with the story last March — the reporters never actually call it a Verizon iPhone. Instead, it's "Verizon-ready," "based on an alternative technology … used by Verizon" and being produced on a schedule "that would allow Verizon Wireless to sell the smartphone early next year." Why the ambiguity? We suspect it's because the reporters don't actually know that Verizon will ever get the new phone. There are plenty of other carriers in the U.S. and overseas that could use a CDMA iPhone, and Apple could be building it for them. It's pretty clear that the Journal has been spoon fed these stories. What's not so clear is why.

Posted: 07 Oct 2010 02:54 AM PDT

Woah! what’s going on these days with every other company suing each other. We have heard Microsoft suing Motorola recently and now here is some fresh news that Motorola suing Cupertino Co.If you see the below picture(Courtesy Image from Design Language of Guardian data via DF) there is no arrow pointing towards Apple from Motorola but things are gonna change now.Motorola Mobility Sues Apple for Patent Infringement.

Overall, Motorola Mobility's three complaints include 18 patents, which relate to early-stage innovations developed by Motorola in key technology areas found on many of Apple's core products and associated services, including MobileMe and the App Store. The Motorola patents include wireless communication technologies, such as WCDMA (3G), GPRS, 802.11 and antenna design, and key smartphone technologies including wireless email, proximity sensing, software application management, location-based services and multi-device synchronization.

Motorola Mobility has requested that the ITC commence an investigation into Apple's use of Motorola's patents and, among other things, issue an Exclusion Order barring Apple's importation of infringing products, prohibiting further sales of infringing products that have already been imported, and halting the marketing, advertising, demonstration and warehousing of inventory for distribution and use of such imported products in the United States. In the District Court actions, Motorola Mobility has requested that Apple cease using Motorola's patented technology and provide compensation for Apple's past infringement.

The ITC expedites patents quicker than the US courts so this will mean shit gets hot sooner.

Kirk Dailey, corporate vice president of intellectual property at Motorola Mobility, said, "Motorola has innovated and patented throughout every cycle of the telecommunications industry evolution, from Motorola's invention of the cell phone to its development of premier smartphone products. We have extensively licensed our industry-leading intellectual property portfolio, consisting of tens of thousands of patents in the U.S. and worldwide. After Apple's late entry into the telecommunications market, we engaged in lengthy negotiations, but Apple has refused to take a license. We had no choice but to file these complaints to halt Apple's continued infringement. Motorola will continue to take all necessary steps to protect its R&D and intellectual property, which are critical to the company's business."

So expect one coming from Apple get set go…
