Samsung to Challenge Apple’s iPad

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 06:26 AM PST

After so many tablets in the making iPad , Google’s tablet , MSI tablet , Samsung said they are not gonna sit quiet. They have also joined the league and they believe they are going to get a tablet killer."We will respond," J.K. Shin, president of Samsung's mobile-communication division, said in an interview in Barcelona, Spain. Apple's tablet computer "will create a new market and new demand," adding that it's "too early" to give more details on Samsung's plans.

The South Korean company provides the processor that powers Apple's iPad, according to market research firm ISuppli Corp., putting Samsung in a position of being both a components supplier and a competitor for the Cupertino, California-based company. The iPad, a touch-screen tablet computer, will go on sale by March, Apple Chief Executive Officer Steve Jobs said at the Jan. 27 debut of the device.

"This is normal, we have to compete in the market," Shin said. "At the same time, they are our customer and we are the supplier of components to them."

Goldman Sachs Group Inc. estimates that Apple will sell 6 million iPads this year. By contrast, the market for mobile phones will reach 1 billion units and PC sales will be about 300 million. Still, the iPad is a high-profile attempt to crack a market that other companies have set their sights on, according to ISuppli analyst Jagdish Rebello.

Samsung's tablet computer plans also show how the Suwon, South Korea-based company aims to offer more higher-end mobile devices. The company said on Feb. 14 that it will start offering a 1-gigahertz processor handset, called the "Wave," as it aims to bolster its smartphone business.

Super Talent Working on USB 3.0 Flash Drive for less than $70

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 05:10 AM PST

I had posted about Super Talent introducing the world’s first USB 3.0 flash drives a couple of months ago, and started shipping in small quantities just in time for the holiday shopping season. SuperSpeed USB 3.0 has a theoretical throughput of 4.8 Gbps, which translates to a raw transfer speed of 480 MB/s thanks to the 8b/10b encoding used. Actual performance is expected to peak around 400MB/s with protocol overhead, similar to how USB 2.0 peaks at around 40MB/s.The RAIDDrive that is shipping comes fairly close to this maximum, providing 320MB/s read using a UAS protocol driver. However, the cost for this premium drive has brought numerous requests for a more affordable solution that balances speed with affordability.

Super Talent is therefore working on a new SuperSpeed USB 3.0 flash drive and it’s tested too. The Express drive will achieve read speeds of 125MB/s and write speeds of 50MB/s. Downloading a 600MB movie will take only 12 seconds with this new drive. It will come in two models; a 16GB model will sell for under $70, while the 32GB model will sell for under $150.The size and cost is slashed dramatically by cutting out the RAID circuitry and reducing the amount of NAND flash memory needed. The Express drive has dimensions of 62 x 37 x7.5 mm.

“This product underscores Super Talent’s continued leadership in the USB 3.0 storage market.”, said Super Talent COO, C.H. Lee. “We’ve listened to our customers and responded with a USB 3.0 product that not only meets the market needs but hits the balance point between price and performance.”

The company will show off the first prototypes at CeBIT next month, with retail availability expected by the end of March.SuperSpeed USB 3.0 is now a standard feature on many premium motherboards. ASUS sells a adapter card featuring two 6Gbps SATA ports and two USB 3.0 ports for under $30.So that’s a awesome price just 70 bucks for 16 gigs with such a awesome transfer rate so get a PCI USB 3.0 card and your ready to go.

Mass Effect 2 rocks with perfect scores

Posted: 19 Feb 2010 02:08 AM PST

The recently released and most awaiting game Mass effect2 has been reviewed by some of the gaming sites and not be surprised comes with awesome or perfect scores.Mass Effect 2’s missions take place across a wonderful variety of locales, from the creepy interior of a derelict vessel to a deep-space prison. Some of them trip up the pace by throwing in additional challenges, such as one in which you must avoid direct sunlight lest it burn you to a crisp. Most levels are thoughtfully constructed, letting you charge from one cover spot to the next in order to unleash destruction. You certainly get an impressive array of devastating tools to that end, including a blinding nuclear weapon that’s always a delight to fire.Mass Effect 2 is the kind of game that you return to, not just because it’s fun to play multiple times, but also because its universe is a place you wish you could call home.Check out some reviews from some sites.

Mass Effect 2

Mass Effect 2 displays some inconsequential flaws during its third act, granted, but in all other ways what we have here is a piece of entertainment that penetrates the line between gaming and cinema like no other, while simultaneously representing the finest blend of shooting and role-playing we've seen this generation. A gorgeous experience and a staggering achievement.

In a generation of great RPGs, those accomplishments are magnificent individually but superlative in concert. Even so, perhaps BioWare’s greatest success in Mass Effect 2 has been taking a complex RPG and making it effortless to understand, play and enjoy on a constant basis, because it has done this in a manner that should prove utterly essential to veterans and newcomers alike, and more than enough to suggest Mass Effect 3 will be the most important game in BioWare’s history.

Games like Mass Effect 2 don’t come around often enough. Look at any aspect and you can be sure it’s great. It’s incredibly personal while still retaining a sense of epic sweeping scale. The combat and mission design are outstanding. The visuals, voice acting, soundtrack, and direction are miles ahead of the competition. Perhaps most impressively, Mass Effect 2 manages to fulfill its incredible ambition while only suffering from very few technical hiccups. The only real caveat I should mention is that some of the revelations and plot twists won’t be quite as powerful if you haven’t played Mass Effect 1, but that isn’t any reason to skip this fantastic videogame.

Mass Effect 2’s improved shooting mechanics are no-brainers; they’re the expected advancements that clean up the flaws of its predecessor. But what makes this sequel so rich isn’t mechanics, but vision. A nightclub lit with flames, deadly family reunions, a friend accused of the inconceivable–these are the sights and events that cast shadows in your mind and heart. A few blemishes prove that this planned trilogy still has potential for growth, but they barely diminish the game’s overall impact. This is a galaxy you want to explore that is populated with characters you are glad to know.
