CEATEC 2009 Part 2 Japan Target Market

Posted: 20 Oct 2009 04:15 PM PDT

From the evidence in both this and the CEATEC show last year, the major Japanese manufacturers really seem to have adopted eco issues with a remarkable level of enthusiasm which, to be honest, seems not reflected by the degree to which consumers consider green issues when wondering what TV to buy.

CEATEC 2009 Part 2 Japan Target Market

Each key AV booth mark had some comments to make eco large. But before Planet fans get too excited, I must say that there was not much of a sense of progress at the product last year, with many comments being eco is almost total repetition of ads last year, or rather vague general messages of intent rather than what we could focus on specific products.

Sharp, however, was a massive bank of solar panels in a corner booth ranged around a tellies years. But rather than pointing to a new iteration of some solar Bonkers TV solution of the type presented in private last year by Sharp, all I could say the solar panels are on the stand to show that Sharp manufactures them and To give you an idea of the powers of the trademark green, natch. An event a little more tangible how AV technology could play a role in saving the Earth from Panasonic, like a big “right Eco Ideas Exhibition on the front of his booth showed how your TV could become both the one-stop control center of an eco-centric, energy saving house, and a means of controlling consumption of energy around the house at the touch of a button on the remote.

Panasonic has a 103in screen 4k2k running some drag racing video sequences that dazzle, while Toshiba has developed a concept version of its 4k2k Cell Regza TV that also produced results quite fascinating.
Obviously, you need a screen big enough to really enjoy 4k2k, but I must say that I found myself feeling more excited about the possibilities of future 4k2k I did in 3D. But then, I’ve always been a sucker for a bit of fine picture detail. [via trustedreviews]

Samsung i7500 Galaxy Android Smartphone

From the back examination of the very stylized Palm before, first impressions of the Galaxy is a bit disappointing. Although its design is certainly classy - unlike many toys more like Android handsets we’ve seen before - it just feels a little too square, and lack of a truly integral design. The mass of buttons on the front and various other components, buttons and holes on the sides also make it look a bit cluttered. Now do not get us wrong, we are not opposed to taking the substance on the style, but for those of you who like your accessories to make an impact this could be done to avoid.

Another disappointment is to establish quality. While many have reported that the glass screen is super tough and resistant to scratches, it is actually a very hard plastic. Now it will certainly be more resistant to scratches than plastic flexible screens, but still below the level of a glass screen. The back is also quite fragile glossy black plastic to scratch very easily. However, Samsung does include a soft pouch base is beautiful and thin, fits the phone perfectly, and has a smooth finish is so easy to get in and out of pockets.

Even if they are easy to reach the buttons themselves are not without fault. While we think dropping the ball control of all other Android handsets and replace it with a D-pad has a sense we wish Samsung had thought about dropping some of the other extra buttons as well. In particular, we see no need for a separate home button (the small) and those for the back and end call / power. The side-mounted lock button also seems unnecessary and is certainly very frustrating - this phone seems to have a life of its own when it comes to lock and unlock it (the point of paying more than one word in passing on my lips in exasperation). We much prefer the simplified presentation of the T-Mobile momentum combined with its lock / power button on the side and home / back button on the front. [via trustedreviews]

Nikon Upgrade Camera D300s Digital SLR

Posted: 20 Oct 2009 01:15 AM PDT

Upgrading a camera as good as the Nikon D300 is always something happening to a problem. There are so many things right that almost any change would be a slander rather than an improvement. Recognizing clearly a golden goose when they see one, Nikon has wisely avoided any drastic changes to the design D300, just adding a couple new features to keep the D300 up to date with its rivals. The main addition is the record HD video mode taken from the D90. Less obvious improvements include a second memory card slot for SD / SDHC and a slight boost the speed of continuous shooting.

Nikon D300s Digital SLR

The overall design of the unit remained almost entirely unchanged. It still has the same rubber coated exceptionally rugged magnesium alloy, although the slot to host the second map of the hatch covering them has been redesigned. The D300 was a highlight of card sealed with a secure locking door and a lever separate outlet. The D300 has a simple slide-open hatch is a little less fiddly, but not as strong. The hatch hinge is probably the weakest part of the body, and also does not look as if she has the same degree of weather resistance as the old hatch.

The second card slot itself is well implemented, however, with the options menu you can place the CompactFlash card or SD card as the primary. The backup card can be used for overflow storage for backup, or for JPEG files while Raw files go in the primary. Video recordings can be saved in the card slot. [via trustedreviews]

Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD - 23in HDTV Monitor

Posted: 19 Oct 2009 10:15 PM PDT

Samsung is nothing if not prolific, highlighting the new monitors and televisions, and it is fair to say that it is also a leading market hybrid of both. Today, we are studying another of these, the 23in SyncMaster P2370HD HDTV Monitor. Sporting a Full HD panel, P2370HD walks the line between two previous models, Samsung, we looked at, offering the most features of the SyncMaster T240 with whimsical style and a bit of energy savings of the SyncMaster P2370 ECOFIT. It makes a very attractive proposition on paper, so we will see how he fares in practice.

Samsung SyncMaster P2370HD - 23in HDTV Monitor

Despite the sacrifices ergonomic (not tilt, pivot or height adjustment, unfortunately too common on TV monitors), we must say that visually, the Samsung drawings are on site as long as you want color red, that is. This is yet another in its vast Samsung Touch of Color (TOC) range to the red rose with subtle reflections Crimson to the outer edges of his piano-black bezel and base. There is also a transparency surrounding adds depth and enhances the color, with all on one leg transparency chic is easy to reach.

Connectivity is not quite the standard offered by the T240, with a single HDMI port instead of two. Beyond that, however, P2370HD has every option you could desire and more, starting with DVI, VGA, component, composite and SCART inputs, with an antenna input, optical digital and analog audio (3.5 mm dual phono), a headphone jack and even a digital optical audio output for passing surround sound track of HDMI and optical, through a separate audio system.
