Today I'm full of praise for the United States of America. I'm sure you want to know why. Their gesture of mourning the death of the soldiers who defended their country and fixing a special day for this purpose touched my heart. This is the feeling that inspired me to write an article and let you all know the importance of the Memorial Day that is very dear to the Americans. It is observed each year on the last Monday of May and is also known as Decorations Day.

The Memorial Day - America's Day of grief for its departed Soldiers!

The Memorial Day - America's Day of grief for its departed Soldiers!

It initially originated to mourn the death of soldiers in the Civil American War but as time passed the day included deaths in all wars. The day is so special that each year there are volunteers who an American flag on each grave.

Now what caused the springing up of such an idea in the minds of the American government officials? To answer this question I have to take you back to the year 1865 when an unimaginable number of soldiers sacrificed their lives in wars and family members especially women began to cover and decorate the graves of their loved ones. In this way each time a war broke out, it was followed by a number of funeral ceremonies. This was when the government of USA decided to create a common day in the memory of all those who breathed their last on the war front.

The True Meaning of Memorial Day:

One more remarkable activity that is done in the memory of these great souls is raising the American flag to the staff position and gradually lowering it to Half Staff where it is kept till noon. This is America's way of thanking those who gave up their lives in an attempt to protect the citizens of the country. Well I thing this is the best way to pay a tribute to the departed souls. Do you agree?
