Rahul Gandhi fails to create the magic in UP politics in 2012 elections Posted: 23 Mar 2012 02:43 AM PDT The much hyped Uttar Pradesh 2012 just got over and Mulayam Singh’s Samajwadi Party (SP) emerged victorious defeating Mayawati led Bahujan Samajwadi Party (BSP). Rahul Gandhi’s dreams of a Congress victory were dashed as the party again was relegated to a small number of seats. So where did Rahul miss the trick? Despite visiting the rural heartland and trying to connect with the masses, he failed to establish the connect with the rural masses, the backward community. Perhaps, he came across as an outsider who came with a promise of a better future but he was not one among them. Rahul could not break the caste barrier and this came to be his undoing in the elections. No matter how sensitive an individual is to issues of a community, simply being around them does not establish the connect with them. At-least this is what Rahul Gandhi would have learnt from this loss. Unfortunately, both Rahul Gandhi and Congress would have to wait for another five years to realize their dreams of coming to power and ensure that their expectations are met!
