A new page on Spotify’s website says:

"Spotify is coming to the US. The award-winning music service that's taken Europe by storm will soon be landing on US shores. Millions of tracks ready to play instantly, on your computer and your phone."

Spotify comes to the US

Users are invited to submit their email address to be notified when the site launches.

It is still not clear when the US service will go live. A Spotify spokesman said this evening:

“We're working hard to launch the service in the US as soon as possible. All we can say right now is watch this space!”

Spotify’s launch expansion into the US has been anticipated for over a year but has been delayed by negotiations with record labels.

What is Spotify?

Spotify is a subscription service that allows you to listen to any music in their extensive catalogue of 13 million tracks. The music is streamed so there’s no need to wait for a download.

There are three tier of membership ‘Free’ which gives users reduced streaming time and is ad-supported.

Spotify ‘Unlimited’ removes the time limits and the ads.

Spotify ‘Premium’ adds mobile playback, ‘off-line’ playback (that’s encrypted downloads, folks), better sound quality, and the ability to play music through sound systems.
