LauncherPro developer comes up with Windows Phone 7-style music player for Android

Posted: 21 May 2011 03:50 AM PDT

Any Android fans envied by Windows Phone 7′s Metro UI style eh ? Don’t you worry you can have the media player that comes with Windows phone on your Android too (the WP7 launcher has been emulated before, try Launcher 7 in the Market), thanks to this app released by the developer of the popular LauncherPro homescreen replacement. As seen in the video below next to a real WP7 device, the look and functionality of the Zune player is present in a remarkably full featured interface despite its early alpha status, complete with features like scrobbling and playlists.

The only thing it’s really lacking so far is a name, and obviously any Zune software integration; while we wait to see if Microsoft has any reaction to this homage you can sideload the APK yourself from the source link.If you want to see the same app running on Honeycomb (and looking amazing) check out a screenshot after the break. Nokia Windows Phone 8 handsets to use dual core ST-Ericsson U8500 chip

Posted: 21 May 2011 02:38 AM PDT

Nowadays every Windows Phone device on the market is powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon processor and previously there was a rumor that Nokia would use chips from ST-Ericcson to power up windows phones and now that is confirmed through a recent interview by STMicroelectronics CEO Carlo Bozotti with Forbes.

The first batch of Windows Phones Nokia due to be released later this year or early next year will run on Qualcomm silicon, but future devices running Windows Phone 8, the devices that will ship in significant volume, will rock the ST-Ericsson U8500 and future, more powerful versions of that chip. Bozotti also says that Nokia plans on releasing 12 Windows Phone 8 devices over the course of 2012, which is a fact Stephen Elop might have wanted to be kept private.

The ST-Ericsson U8500 sports a pair of ARM Cortex A9 processors and an ARM Mali 400 GPU. It also does 21 Mbps HSPA+ and has WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, and can even handle FM radio. Bozotti also told Forbes that the U8500 is already in 2 devices on the market: AT&T's Samsung Infuse 4G and T-Mobile' Sidekick 4G.Now I didn’t know these two had this hardware in them.

WP7 does not have support for dual core, WP 8 has not come out yet, i am not sure how are they going to release WP8 port them on to A9 dual core and come out with a handset next year!  In addition to this getting WP on ARM isn't that difficult technically, as it could take a few weeks for the port. The business and political angles are what's really holding this up.So who’s it for you Android or Windows Phone ?

HTC HD7S hits AT&T June 5 with 2 yr contract

Posted: 21 May 2011 02:13 AM PDT

Are you wanting to get a smartphone with AT&T as your carrier but not satisfied with the existing line up then, here is some good news. HTC HD7S will be landing to AT&T on June 5 with a two year contract.if you check out the picture, this phone similar to the HTC HD7 just the difference being the Super LCD screen for the 4.3 inch display. It has same 1 GHz processor, 5-megapixel camera, WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS and all the other features as you would expect in a high end phone.

The best part about the AT&T HD7S is that is should launch with the NoDo Windows Phone 7 software version, which includes copy and paste, as well as other improvements. By the time of the release though, we should have even more details about the Windows Phone 7.5 aka  Mango update, so let's hope this device will be one of the first in line to get it.Check out AT&T link for more info.In the meantime check out the video of the device from CTIA.(Courtesy -Intomobile)

Motorola Droid X2 official at $200 launching online and in some stores today

Posted: 19 May 2011 01:49 AM PDT

Motorola and Verizon finally have made the Droid X2 official. This is a 4.3-inch Android (currently  at 2.2, to be upgraded to 2.3) smartphone with a qHD screen resolution and a dual-core 1GHz processor. An 8 megapixel camera with continuous autofocus and HD video recording graces the back. The X2 will cost the usual $200 on contract and will be available to buy online today May 19th.

Interestingly, Engadget also spotted the close proximity of the USB and HDMI ports on the side of the new X2. That arrangement is reminiscent of the one on Motorola’s Atrix, where the two connectors served to hook that handset up to its laptop and multimedia docks. Not sure whether the Droid X2 will fit into the accessories designed for the Atrix, but it looks sure to be strapping itself into a dock of some description in the near future.NVIDIA has confirmed that its Tegra 2 chip is the heretofore unnamed 1GHz dual-core chip inside the Droid X2, which just happens to be Verizon’s first dual-core smartphone. So if you bought one post your impressions in comments below.
