Firefox 4 for Android launched comes with speed and sync option

Posted: 29 Mar 2011 08:56 AM PDT

Just a week ago the RC version of Firefox 4 for Android was released and today its finally come out of the RC stage.Mozilla 4 is released from the Mozilla labs for Android and Maemo phones and you can get it from the Android Market, coming in 10 different languages.The mobile browser syncs all of your bookmarks, browsing history, passwords, and even open tabs with your Firefox browser on your desktop. So you can pick up browsing where you left off when you leave your desk. This syncing is huge. The browser won't be available for the iPhone anytime soon because of restrictions Apple places on browsing apps—for one thing, it doesn't use Webkit.

Only concern is the absense of Flash support even though Flash can be made to run on Android 2.2.Firefox mobile will support Flash, but it is just not there yet in terms of responsiveness so it will take time to come out.The focus right now is on HTML5 and CSS. It is amazing some of the 3D effects, animations, video, and other in-browser graphics you can now get with HTML5. Check out some of the demos here after you download Firefox to your phone.

Other feature worth noticable is the tabbed browsingits snapping zoom, and the Awesome Screen. Your tabs are always available in a thin column on the left which can be accessed with a simple swipe. If you are on a webpage that is not optimized for a mobile device, you can snap the zoom with a double tap to align with a column or box on the page and then scroll up and down normally. The Awesome Screen is the mobile version of the Awesome Bar on FireFox desktop. As you type, it makes suggestions based on your previous browsing history, bookmarks, and open tabs.That’s cool so try it out now.

Google’s Dev Conference sold out in just 59 mins

Posted: 29 Mar 2011 08:31 AM PDT

In a rapid time of 59 minutes the Google IO developer conference was sold out reports AndroidCentral compared to 10 hours in the case of Apple’s World Wide Developer’s conference scheduled between June 6th-10th.While the WWDC announcement might not point to new hardware (and, by the way, it never has), the absence of evidence is not evidence of absence. Apple will have new hardware soon enough, and Android needs to be ready for it.

WWDC 2011 dates confirmed June 6-10th coming up iOS 5 and Mac OS X Lion

Posted: 29 Mar 2011 03:49 AM PDT

Every year Apples announces something new in the World Wide Developer conference(WWDC) and from the past we have seen that the dates would come basically from 3rd party sources. But in a surprising move Apple officially announced the dates of the WWDC 2011 from June 6th-10th at the Moscone West convention center in San Francisco.In this five-day conference  you would get hands-on working labs for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS(iOS 5) and Mac OS (Lion) and Apple design awards. This was confirmed by Philip Schiller, Apple's senior vice president of Worldwide Product Marketing.Registration for the conference passes are priced at $1599 only.

At this year's conference we are going to unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS. If you are an iOS or Mac OS X software developer, this is the event that you do not want to miss.

There are lot of rumors spreading up saying that iPhone 5 might be delayed but nothing is confirmed yet.But Jim Dalrymple from The LoopInsight reports that Apple is not planning to introduce any new hardware at its annual Worldwide Developers Conference(WWDC).That means to say iPhone 5 may not be released until FY 2012.

Apple closed the door this morning on any speculation that it would announce new hardware at its Worldwide Developers conference saying it would focus on iOS and Mac OS.

Apple's apparent focus on software in its WWDC announcement backs up what my own sources are saying about the annual conference. That is, expect a software show in 2011, not a hardware event.

Japanese blog Macotakara reports that based on the current status of part production, the fifth-generation iPhone will "probably" not before the end of Apple's fiscal 2011, which occurs in late September 2011.

According to Chinese source, iPhone 5 will not probablly be shipped during 2011 because the parts manufacturing for iPhone 5 are not started.

What we know till  now is that iPhone 5 will carry metal back, A5 processor, larger display, no NFC ,thinner bezel (edge-to-edge screen) and iPhone 4 like design.Until then take a look at the press release.

CUPERTINO, California-March 28, 2011-Apple today announced that it will hold its annual Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) June 6 through June 10 at San Francisco's Moscone West. At this year's five-day conference Apple will unveil the future of iOS and Mac OS, including exciting demonstrations of the new kinds of apps that developers can build using Apple's advanced frameworks and more than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers.

Mobile developers will be able to explore the latest innovations and capabilities of iOS and learn how to greatly enhance the functionality, performance and design of their apps. Mac developers will see and learn how to develop world-class Mac OS X Lion applications using its latest technologies and capabilities. Developers can even bring their code to the labs and work with Apple engineers, applying development techniques and best-practices to enhance their apps.

Activities at Apple's WWDC 2011 include:

  • More than 100 technical sessions presented by Apple engineers on a wide range of technology-specific topics for developing, deploying and integrating the latest iOS and Mac OS technologies;
  • Over 1,000 Apple engineers providing developers with code-level assistance, insight into optimal development techniques, and guidance on how they can make the most of iOS and Mac OS technologies in their apps;
  • Opportunity to connect with thousands of fellow iPad, iPhone and Mac developers from around the world;
  • Apple Design Awards which recognize iPad, iPhone and Mac apps that demonstrate technical excellence, innovation and outstanding design.

Go to the Apple Worldwide Developers Conference 2011 website (developer.apple.com/wwdc)  to purchase tickets, as well as for updates and more information.

But we hear that the tickets are already sold out(Thanks 9to5mac for info).
