Windows 8 Beta Release possibly in June, to come on tablets first Posted: 24 Feb 2011 05:36 AM PST After the Windows 8 milestone build moving into it’s final stages, it has given some more info on the upcoming Windows 8 OS.Lots of builds have been compiled, some are listed below the latest build being 7947.The complete build string is 6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608 which was compiled on February 18.This build is nothing Windows 8 Milestone 2 Escrow.
Canouna on MDL forums posted a screen shot which was leaked by Zukona and also the list of previous builds, the previous latest build for Windows 8 was Build 7929 and 7930.The complete build string was 7929.0.winmain_win8m2.110215-1802 and the build was compiled on February 15 and 6.2.7930.0.winmain_win8m2.110217-1825 which was compiled on 17th Feb.It clearly states that Windows 8 Build 7930 was the last build before Windows 8 Milestone 2 Escrow(7947) and Microsoft is ready to pack Windows 8 Milestone 2 and start working on Milestone 3.He has also posted the screenshot of setup.exe file of Build 7928. Zukona has leaked a new screenshot of Windows 8 Milestone 2. The build number is 6.2.7930.0.winmain_win8m2.110217-1825.
As you can see in the above screenshot: A new “Restart if required” option has been added below “Install updates” button. Surprisingly, the good old “Up” button has been put back in Windows Explorer titlebar. Its not confirmed but by the look and position, it looks like the “Up” button. Windows 8 Milestone build eminent, moving to final stages Posted: 24 Feb 2011 04:49 AM PST According to Winrumors report, Microsoft is on the verge of finishing its second Milestone build of Windows 8.The software giant has compiled a number of Milestone 2 builds recently ready for the final M2 build that will be distributed internally and externally to the company's closest partners. Microsoft compiled o6.2.7947.0.winmain_win8m2_escrow.110218-1608 on Friday following a number of Windows 8 builds over the past couple of weeks. Microsoft's escrow stage for Windows 8 is a significant stage towards a Windows 8 beta. The escrow stage marks the fact that Microsoft is ready to compile a final M2 build during its development stage. Microsoft is likely to start compiling Milestone 3 builds in early March following the finalization of M2. Microsoft began compiling Milestone 1 builds of Windows 8 in early August 2010. The software giant finalized the M1 build in early December after four months of development. M2 builds began in early December and are expected to be finalized in the next two weeks. Milestone 3 development is expected to last until early June. The current schedule could mean we'll see a Windows 8 beta in the Summer. Microsoft may introduce Windows 8 ARM based tablets ahead of a full desktop release according to recent reports. Microsoft's competitive tablet strategy is believed to be further along than expected. Dell's recently leaked Tablet Roadmap revealed that the OEM has marked Q1 2012 as its date for a Windows 8 based slate.Steve Ballmer has described the next release of Windows as the company's "riskiest product bet". It is understood that Microsoft will feature deep cloud integration into the future OS to realise its vision of "three screens and a cloud". Microsoft has so far been extremely quiet on the Windows 8 front. Windows Chief, Steven Sinofsky, took to the stage at the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas in January to introduce a technology preview of Microsoft's Windows ARM support and show off an early build of Windows 8. Microsoft is partnering with ARM-based manufactures NVIDIA, Qualcomm and Texas Instruments to produce new Tablet devices. Rumors suggest that Microsoft will create a dual-UI for Windows 8. A tile-based user interface codenamed "Mosh" will reportedly be included. The tablet, codenamed Peju, has been penciled in for the first three months of next year. Download Windows 7 Service Pack 1 (SP1) now, update available through Windows update Posted: 24 Feb 2011 04:41 AM PST Microsoft has officially released it’s first service pack update for Windows 7 desktop operating system. You can download the SP1 update from Microsoft’s Download Center or it is now made available through Windows update too. I just updated my PC to Windows SP1.See screen shot of my Windows update. If you remember the first beta SP1 update was released some where in July 2010 and RC1 update followed in October 2010. This Service pack was made available to TechNet and MSDN subscribers. first and now its live for the rest of world. SP1 only contains two major new features, which will not affect the majority of users. The first of the two is RemoteFX, a standalone product that requires Windows Server 2008 R2 to be used. RemoteFX allows users to watch high-quality video and interact with 3D applications over a remote desktop session — this will change the way Virtual Machines are used, as they have had limited display capabilities until now. The second feature is an update for HyperV in Windows Server 2008 R2 called “Dynamic Memory”. The feature is as simple as it sounds — it dynamically allocates memory to virtual machines as required and is able to remove memory from virtual machines when others need higher resources. You can read more about the new features over on the Windows Server Team Blog. Check out the CRC info windows6.1-KB976932-ia64.exe CRC – a23de7cf MD5 – c0a186b85239bfab823b22ff74c192b2 SHA1 – 1ab97593f6f625392ca90b18f7617b0797a46f1c windows6.1-KB976932-X64.exe CRC – 068c79c6 MD5 – 28d3932f714bf71d78e75d36aa2e0fb8 SHA1 – 74865ef2562006e51d7f9333b4a8d45b7a749dab windows6.1-KB976932-x86.exe CRC – 5eb0fa87 MD5 – 4bf28fc00d86c936c89e2d91ef46758b SHA1 – c3516bc5c9e69fee6d9ac4f981f5b95977a8a2fa SP’s also incluse the hotfixes that dont get pushed out via windows update but are available on demand if you experience specific issues (you search for your problem, you find the KB article and download the hotfix – they do not get pushed out), service packs should always be installed as they ‘fill in’ these gaps in the OS as well as roll all updates previously available and probably installed via windows update. As you see from the screen shot the build no is 7601.17514.101119-1850.Microsoft has confirmed this is the final RTM build and users can download it from following direct download links.
