Motorola planning 4G devices for Verizon, 7- and 10-inch tablets early next year

Motorola has come up a long way considering the fact that it started with Droid and now it has whole lineup of incredibly hot phones, and CES seems like a perfect time for the beating of chests in front of an industry.Motorola CEO Sanjay Jha just went on record during a keynote at the Credit Suisse 2010 Technology Conference, saying Motorola will be entering the tablet space ‘in the near future.’ He also said that he sees both 7-inch and 10-inch tablets as viable sizes.

This seems perfectly logical to as the next iPad would be a 7 incher and it coincides with what we initially heard of Motorola’s “Stingray” tablet as a smaller device, but later heard it was a full 10-incher upgradeable to LTE. This all follow’s on Sanjay’s statement in September that Motorola wouldn’t be joining in on the tablet space until next year, a year which is rapidly approaching. Meanwhile, Sanjay also confirmed that Motorola would have 4G devices “early” next year, which also sounds like a CES hint to us, though it might just be 4G modems and hotspots at the outset. Still, bring it on.

Acer confirms plans of coming up with Windows Phone 7

Posted: 04 Dec 2010 06:19 AM PST

There were hints of Acer coming up with Windows Phone 7 when Microsoft employee hinted about it couple months ago, but now Acer CEO Gianfranco Lanci has come out and said it: Acer’s working on Windows Phone 7. In an interview with Ina Fried, Gianfranco touched briefly on the company’s plans for Microsoft’s new OS, after an ill-fated stint with Windows Mobile not so long ago. Naturally, the addition of Windows Phone 7 won’t be coming at the expense of Acer’s newfound love of Android, but Lanci oddly says he sees for WP7 “the same opportunity you can see on Android in terms of customization.” We don’t know what sort of customization he could be referring to, but we’re trembling in anticipation. So, let’s just tally them up: MeeGo, Chrome OS, Windows Phone 7, Android, and, of course, Windows itself… pretty nice collection you’ve got for yourself, Acer. What’s next, BeOS?

Sony Ericsson’s Zeus Z1 Playstation phone seen in images and video

Posted: 04 Dec 2010 05:50 AM PST

Lot of hype is happening considering about the Sony Ericsson’s Playstation phone aka Zeus.It showed up it’s first video appearance in the wilds of Greece. It’s one half portable gaming console, one half Android smartphone. It’s dubbed the Sony Ericsson Z1 and comes with Gingerbread on board. We have also seen reports of some Zeus devices in the wild which are already running Android 2.3 (and above) — while the screen is a 4-inch panel that apparently offers great touchscreen responsiveness.Checkout the video below.

Now what we hear is some video update to the Zeus Z1.This time we get a long, loving look at the entire device — a refreshing contrast to last time’s blurry tease. In addition to appreciating just how fat this phone is, and just how real it is, you can clearly see a “PlayStation” icon, which should hopefully put to rest any doubts that this phone will actually play PlayStation games.

If that was not all here is one image in the EXIF data have started showing up on Picasa. The four appropriately-labeled pictures all clock in at 5 megapixels, so we hope you weren’t expecting an N8-beating resolution here… but then again, when you’re heads-down in PlayStation-branded games for hours on end, do you really have time to be taking decent pictures anyway?

Look of Google Chome OS netbook keyboard revealed

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:34 PM PST

Few mins back I posted about the Google chrome OS event to be scheduled on December 7th.The picture you see below is what is supposed to be the chrome OS netbook keyboard. We don’t know all that much about the rest of the netbook  but reports from the multiple sources says that it’s powered by an Intel Atom processor — but the image below was taken from an Inventec (as in, the ODM making the netbook) presentation.

It looks like your average chiclet keyboard, but there are obviously some interesting differences. Over on the left side of the panel you’ll see a “search” key subbing for a Caps Lock key, and up above, the function row has forward / back keys as well as Window, full screen, and “configuration” keys.

Now wait lets do a comparison of Acer’s Chrome netbook ZGA model which happens to have the same exact keyboard layout. You can check out the picture of that one below and see it for your self that it’s similar in the layout.Reports say that Chrome OS netbook will be announced next Tuesday, but won’t be on sale until December 14.So wait and enjoy !

Google Chrome OS netbook to launch on December 7th event

Posted: 03 Dec 2010 09:20 PM PST

It seems as next week Google will give an info about how its Cloud based Chrome Operating system is coming along.Multiple sources like Engadget, AllThingsD have told that Google will be holding some sort of event on Tuesday, December 7th.We’re not sure if it’ll be a live event, a webcast, or something else entirely — and that the shindig will see the launch of that Google-branded Chrome OS netbook we’ve been hearing about.

Again, we’ve heard  that the Atom-powered laptop isn’t going to be a mass market device — there will only be around 65,000 units available to Google’s closest “friends and family” — and that the Cloud-based OS is still very much in a beta, non-consumer-friendly state.

Of course, this all lines up with TechCrunch’s report that Google will be launching its Chrome Web / App Store very soon, as well as yesterday’s launch  of Chrome 8, which supports those aforementioned Chrome apps. (Companies like TweetDeck have already started demoing their browser apps.) Don’t forget that those apps are going to be a large part of the OS, so it would make sense for Google to talk about ‘em in tandem. The pieces sure do seem to be fitting together quite well, and while we still have lots of unanswered questions, we’re feeling confident that we’ll be getting some official answers on all this Chrome-ness very soon.
