| LG teams up with VMware to deploy Android phones with virtualization Posted: 08 Dec 2010 04:25 PM PST VMware has been in the process of sexy virtualization not only on the operating systems but also on a single smartphone for some time — and it’s finally getting the opportunity to deliver to the masses thanks to a new partnership with LG. Targeted at the enterprise, Korea’s number two phone maker — which is going into 2011 with a big Android push — will be integrating VMware’s virtualization technology into some of its models next year, starting with Android but potentially moving to other platforms (Windows Phone 7 comes immediately to mind) if the market demands it.
You might think that being able to virtualize a second operating system on your phone doesn’t have much consumer relevance, but VMware’s got a point: with smartphones becoming more of an end-user phenomenon than ever before, it’s getting tougher for IT departments to sell employees on giving up their personal phones in favor of a secure, managed, corporate-provided alternative. With the virtualized setup, the work phone lives as an app within the personal phone — two phone numbers, two complete environments, and only the work environment can be controlled by the IT nerds. Long term, the concept would be that employees could use whatever phone their little hearts desire — companies would merely need to dump their VMware setup on top and you’ve suddenly got your work phone integrated. Follow the break for the press release and a video demo of VMware’s virtualization software (on a Nexus One, not an LG) in action. | Netflix ported WebKit to the PS3 to enable HTML5 goodies Posted: 08 Dec 2010 04:10 PM PST Remember in October, Netflix came up with 1080 streaming and disc-free Netflix experience for the PS3, then came the situation where different people were getting a different UI, and there didn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to the differentiation. Well, it turns out Netflix was flexing a bit of its HTML5 muscle, rapidly testing different experiences to see which ones worked best for users, all without having to push out app updates or back-end changes to accommodate its indecision. Apparently, Netflix’s engineers actually ported WebKit to the PS3 to make all this possible, and hopefully it’s a sign of things to come in the HTML5 iPhone, iPad, and Android apps .It’s also seems to be good news for other PS3 apps which can lean on the framework — presumably VUDU’s own HTML5-based UI took advantage of this when it landed on the PS3 in November. What we’d really love is if Sony and Google are secretly in cahoots to bring the entirety of Chrome and its couch-friendly Google TV UI with it.

| Windows Phone 7 shown copying and pasting on video Posted: 08 Dec 2010 03:42 PM PST There was news that copy paste feature would come some where in early 2011 but those lucky enough to have a developer device are now starting to receive an update that includes the much anticipated copy and paste functionality, and here is the video of it in action. That expectedly functions much as we’ve heard before, and it appears to work reasonably well in the (admittedly brief) video. Head on past the break to check it out for yourself. This was done on Samsung Taylor Windows phone7.

| Posted: 07 Dec 2010 10:03 PM PST After a really long wait finally Google has launched it’s own e-book store – Google e-books,many of them are free and is compatible with any device which has a browser support allowing users with a Google account to access and buy Google eBooks in the cloud from various mobile devices. In addition to the Web reader, the search giant developed free applications for Android and iOS.
Some of the prominent features are font selection, font size, line spacing and day/night reading mode. Google lets people buy its eBooks from some of the booksellers,at present only a few of them are in the partners program: Powell's, Alibris,Hachette, Macmillan, Random House, Simon & Schuster and participating members of the American Booksellers Association.Google eBookstore is having more than 3 million titles in all, agree that's huge. Out of 3 million titles 2.8 million of Google's ebooks are free and without copyright. There would be around 4,000 publishers providing content via Google ebooks.
If you notice there are some differences between Google's apps compared to the rest of the apps. One is that it offers a web version of its application, making it accessible to anyone with a desktop browser and on a relatively wide range of mobile devices. The second would be is that it lists page numbers and allows readers to quickly switch to see the actual scanned (rather than flowing text) page so that they can cite the printed edition rather than the electronic edition, if they so prefer. So what are you waitin for give it a try to Google eBookstore:
