Microsoft says not to hack Windows Phone 7

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 09:37 PM PST

I posted about ChevronWP7 tool which can be used to jailbreak or unlock your Windows phone 7 to unlock hidden potential and to access marketplace without the need of a developer account.Microsoft has released a brief statement on the state of the Windows Phone 7 hacking community saying unlocking can lead to voiding the phone, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable. Here is the statement.

We anticipated that people would attempt to unlock the phones and explore the underlying operating system. We encourage people to use their Windows Phone as supplied by the manufacturer to ensure the best possible user experience. Attempting to unlock a device could void the warranty, disable phone functionality, interrupt access to Windows Phone 7 services or render the phone permanently unusable.

I hope Redmond won’t take the hands like Apple releasing patches and new versions of iOS.

Are you a owner of the upcoming  WP7 phones from Microsoft then here is some good news for you.Similar to jailbreaking on Apple’s iDevices which lets you unlock hidden features and potential the same thing you can do it on your Windows 7 phone. Some developers have developed a sexy jailbreak tool  named ‘ChevronWP7‘ that jailbreaks and unlocks any retail windows Phone 7 device. It allow you to deploy any third party Windows Phone 7 application without requiring a Marketplace developer account. So you don’t have to be in market place for apps this tool can get you the access.

The tool is developed by great people whom I know share insights on Windows phone 7. I am talking about Rafael Rivera from withinwindows.com and Long Zheng from istartedsomething.com.In addition to them is Chris Walsh the other developer. They say that with this tool Windows Phone 7 can be unlocked with ChevronWP7 for application side-loading without having to pay $99 per year for a WP7 marketplace account. Currently, Microsoft only allows registered developers to unlock their device in order to sideload their apps for testing purposes. The utility is said to be completely safe and the unlocking can be reversed by restoring it to factory settings. So go download from the links below and unlock the hidden potential from your WP7.

ChevronWp7 is compatible with Windows XP SP2 and up.

Netflix exec reveals secret behind PS3 UI madness

Posted: 26 Nov 2010 09:03 PM PST

Recently Netflix launched the updated app for the PS3 which came with a bunch of new features and unfortunately, a few new issues to go along with them including the app not working at all on imported systems, needing a new PSN user ID and the confusion of certain users seeing very different interfaces than what was expected and promised. Now Chief Product Officer Neil Harris opened up  and disclosed about the company’s methodology in an answer on Quora, revealing that it is currently delivering three different UIs for the PS3 and that testing often indicates simplicity trumps completeness. The idea is to find out more about people’s tastes and how quickly they discover information as elements are moved around.I really don’t understand of 3 different UI’s how it could be helpful.
