iPad coming to Verizon and AT&T stores this October 28th with data pricing Posted: 15 Oct 2010 09:35 AM PDT We know there are plans of tie up between the big red network Verizon and Apple with the CDMA version of iPhone.News is that Verizon has gone official with its plans to offer the iPad in its brick-and-mortar stores starting on October 28.In addition to Verizon AT&T is also getting iPad on the same day.
Verizon will be bundling the MiFi 2200 Intelligent Mobile Hotspot with WiFi-only iPad models for $830 for 64GB, $730 for 32GB, and $630 for 16GB.Currently only one access plan on offer for now, granting users 1GB of monthly data allowance in exchange for $20 and no contractual commitments. AT&T will match the release date and upfront prices for each model, although its iPads will be of the WiFi + 3G variety, eschewing the need for a bundled MiFi; plan pricing will continue at 200MB for $15 or 2GB for $25 monthly. According to an FAQ on Verizon’s website, spotted by AppleInsider, there are a pair of other service plans after all: $35 for 3GB and $50 for 5GB, each with penalties of $10 per gigabyte of overage. As the publication notes, these are pretty nifty deals compared to Verizon’s usual data rates, however the FAQ also stipulates that “customers will only be eligible for the new bundle data plans when purchasing the iPad and MiFi 2200 promotional bundle.” AT&T also confirmed that it will bring all three WiFi + 3G models to its retail shelves starting October 28th. AT&T will offer the 3G-enabled iPad with a price tag of $629 for 16GB model, $729 for 32GB model, and $829 for 64GB model. Domestic data plans for iPad are priced at $14.99 per month for 250MB and $25 per month for 2GB with no term contract. The version with 3G will include a no-contract data plan priced at $14.99 per month for 250MB or $25 per month for 2GB.
This Verizon iPad is good news for both Verizon and Apple as they two companies will benefit from the expanded sales during the upcoming holiday shopping season. It is also good news for those hoping to snag one of those rumored iPhones that are supposedly landing on Verizon Wireless next year. If these two companies can come to terms over Apple's popular tablet device, they may be able to strike a similar agreement over the iPhone. While this does not confirm the existence of a Verizon Wireless iPhone, it does bode well that a CDMA iPhone could land on Verizon if and when it is launched. Rumors suggest this CDMA iPhone may also launch on China Telecom and in India. It is also expected to be a mixed-mode CDMA/GSM device. Anyone excited by the prospect of a CDMA/GSM-connected iPhone on Verizon? Via Engadget Related Posts : |
Nokia’s ex-Meego head lands at Palm Posted: 15 Oct 2010 01:17 AM PDT Remember the incident when ex-Meego chief had quit Nokia’s Meego department.Looks like there is role swap coz the ex-Meego chief has just landed up at Palm reports from AllThingsD Ari Jaaksi has just been hired by Palm — a month after Nokia grabbed Palm’s Peter Skillman to head up user experience and services for MeeGo. We can’t say whether it’s Fate or Coincidence but as long as both struggling smartphone companies bring us better devices and improved operating systems as a result, we’re not all that concerned. The report also suggests a Samsung VP and several HP executives will be boosting Palm’s team.Good or Bad ? You pour in comments

AMD to launch next-gen Radeon graphic cards next week Posted: 15 Oct 2010 12:53 AM PDT Anandtech reports that after a earnings conference call for AMD, one of the things which proved to be prominent was the future of AMD’s graphics division, where AMD’s “second-generation DX11″ GPUs were mentioned. This was mentioned by AMD CEO Dirk Meyer in today’s call.He was giving a hint on the Radeon HD 5000 series which some say according to some specs give a performance boost.
Later on, he also had the following to say about what’s launching and what the expected volume is:
After announcing the new product line next week, AMD promises to flood the market with “hundreds of thousands of units,” which will be shipping before the end of this quarter — meaning you’ll have a Radeon HD 6xxx in time for the holiday gaming craze if you really want it.Only thing we can do is wait for next week for a confirmed announcement.
