Download patch for fixing Windows 7 printing issue

Are you experiencing issues with printing since upgrading to Windows 7 from Windows Vista, have no worries ! Microsoft may have released a hotfix for you.Microsoft today acknowledged and released a hotfix for a problem with the Windows print spooler that would occasionally cause single-processor computers to spike at 100 percent CPU usage. This issue affects 32-bit and 64-bit Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 systems, but not Windows Vista or Windows Server 2008 systems.

If you feel that your printing in Windows 7 is taking an especially long time, especially if you're running on an older system or an Intel Atom-powered netbook (both of which are more likely to have single-core processors), open the Task Manager by right clicking on your taskbar and clicking Start Task Manager. Go to the Performance tab and print a test page while checking out the CPU Usage section. If the meter hangs at 100 percent for a while, you should try installing the hotfix.

As always, though, Microsoft recommends downloading and installing the hot fix only if you're experiencing the problem in question – it hasn't undergone the thorough testing that normal security patches and hot fixes go through. For those who'd rather wait, Microsoft will probably release this and other hot fixes in Service Pack 1 when it comes out early next year or download the leaked Windows SP1 pack from unverified sources.

Buddy Media Raises $23 Million to Expand Its Facebook Brand Management System

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 06:00 AM PDT

Buddy Media, a company that provides a platform for brand marketing and management on Facebook, has raised a whopping $23 million in a Series C round led by Institutional Venture Partners (IVP) and joined by existing investors Greycroft Partners, Bay Partners and Softbank Capital. The funding, which was announced by CEO Michael Lazerow at a reception for its new offices in Manhattan, is intended to fuel the company's expansion. Specifically, the company cited that it intends to triple its headcount from 100 to 300 people in the near future, "as well as fund other marketing and growth initiatives." We bet that the company, which has never been shy of acquisitions, will be buying up some of its competitors in the social media brand management space.

Buddy Media serves seven out of the top 10 largest global advertisers for Facebook brand management; over 300 companies use its platform, triple the amount it had last year. The company also claims that it is profitable. Some of its new customers include Johnson & Johnson, Crate & Barrel and Ford.

$23 million isn't a small chunk of change; the company's going to be able to acquire a lot of companies and hire a lot of people, plus it has raised over $10 million since its inception in 2007. Almost all of that is going to its efforts on the world's largest social network.

Facebook marketing has gone from a nice thing to have to an essential component of any major marketing campaign in just a few years.Buddy Media hopes to be the platform that brands use to manage and track their rapidly-growing Facebook Pages and engagement campaigns. With a $23 million war chest, it's got a good shot at succeeding.

Dell shows off Inspiron 15R alloy laptop – Sexy I Must say

Posted: 19 Oct 2010 05:48 AM PDT

I was in the process of intense research for buying a laptop for my sis-ta and today i just something from Dell which caught my eye on.Dell on its product page has put a  alloy color of the Inspiron series named as Dell Inspiron 15R Alloy Edition, a new 15.6-inch laptop with laser-etched waves on the body and a matching palm rest. The wavy, aluminum finish should give this Inspiron an air of luxury, but it's hard to judge whether it worked from pictures alone.

dellAs for the laptop’s specs, you can expect the usual choice of Core i3, i5 or i7 processors, a 15.6-inch glossy and widescreen 1,366 x 768 display, integrated Intel graphics or an optional ATI Mobility Radeon HD 5650, up to 8 gigs of DDR3 RAM, and up to a 750GB hard drive.Other specs include a 7-in-1 media card reader, a 1.3MP webcam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, 1 eSATA/USB2.0 port, HDMI and VGA ports and an optional 9-cell battery.

Somewhat curiously, while the laptop is up on Dell’s site with a “customize” button, it isn’t yet actually available to customize, and there isn’t a starting price or release date to be found.

Motorola asks court to invalidate Apple patents, preempt another lawsuit

Posted: 18 Oct 2010 11:43 PM PDT

The smartphone IP wars are seriously heating up, as Motorola sided with HTC this week in an effort to cover its own rear. Remember those twenty patents Apple aimed at the Taiwanese OEM? Motorola says they’re no good, and is trying to get them thrown out of court — an important tactic, because if the patents do hold water and are successfully used against HTC, Apple might turn around and sue Motorola with them too. That’s because there’s more at stake here than OEM phones, but Android as a whole, and as such other manufacturers that implement Android might potentially be targets as well. Oh, and don’t think this is Motorola’s first salvo in the arena, either — it’s also suing Apple outright to get the point across, and is similarly being targeted by Microsoft for smartphone patents of its own.

Microsoft to spend one billion dollars for advertising Kinect and Windows Phone7

Posted: 18 Oct 2010 10:52 PM PDT

With 9 types of Windows phones 7 released,Microsoft aims to make Kinect a success too and is serious about it.A $500 million kind of serious. That’s the latest report, courtesy of the New York Post, on the change Steve Ballmer and company intend to drop to make sure that every living and breathing creäture in the US knows about the controller-free controller this holiday season.

This also mirrors earlier analyst estimates placing the Windows Phone 7 marketing budget at a similar figure, which in total would amount to a cool billion dollars in advertising expenditure. We already know Microsoft’s scooped the Old Spice Guy for WP7, but Kinect is getting the extra special carpet bombing treatment with Burger King, Pepsi, YouTube, Nickelodeon, Disney, Glee, Dancing with the Stars, People and InStyle magazines, and even Times Square all having a role to play in spreading the word. Yup, it’s gonna be pretty hard to miss it.
