Nvidia unveils World’s fastest laptop/Mobile GPU – GeforceGTX 480M

Posted: 25 May 2010 11:31 AM PDT

In the war of the titans for the ultima supremo in graphics card segment ATI took the lead with world’s fastest graphic card ATI 5970.To give some competition to ATI, Nvidia released the fastest single GPU solution the GTX 470 and GTX 480.But ATI moved on the mobile segment too and released mobile graphic cards like 5470, 5650 etc.Today Nvidia announced new Mobile GPU GeforceGTX 480M touted to be the world’s fastest mobile GPU.

This chip, scheduled for release mid-next month, will bring whooping 352 CUDA cores and a 256-bit memory interface to up to 2GB of GDDR5 RAM.If you consider the Nvidia's current top of the line 360M, this is a huge step ahead but things start to look a little worrying when we check the 480M’s clock speeds.

The processor speed is nearly halved from the desktop GTX 480, at 850MHz, the memory does only 1,200MHz, and the graphics run at 425MHz.Either way, you’re getting a computing powerhouse, with the 480M’s 897 gigaflops comfortably dwarfing its predecessor’s 413 and promising almighty tessellation performance. Can’t say anything until its benchmarked so until then see the spec sheet.

Walmart officially cuts iPhone 3GS price to $97

Posted: 25 May 2010 03:36 AM PDT

With the leaks of the next gen iPhone 4 coming up very frequently, Walmart have devised a strategy to clear up the inventory stock of iPhone 3GS.Walmart just officially announced that it’ll be selling the 16GB iPhone 3GS for $97 starting Tuesday, a full $100 off the regular price. Given the high probability that Steve Jobs will introduce the thoroughly-leaked next-gen iPhone when he gives the WWDC 2010 keynote on June 7th, the price cut seems like either an attempt to clear out remaining inventory or a way to slide the 3GS down the line to replace the $99 8GB iPhone 3G a move which would corroborate some whispers we’ve heard today that the 3G is no longer being shipped to stores. Either way, the 3GS just got a lot cheaper, which is never a bad thing but it would be nice if consumers would wait for the iPhone 4G.
