Android 2.2 aka Froyo would invite you to visit Flash enabled websites Posted: 18 May 2010 04:09 PM PDT Few weeks back Google’s Android head Andy rubin told in an interview that Android 2.2, aka Froyo, will come complete with full support for Flash. So that makes Google and Adobe in the talks on competing with Apple.Look at the analogy, Apple hates Flash while Adobe loves Apple.Apple hates Android and now Android loves Flash. News is that Froyo would be unveiled by Google at the Google I/O which starts on Wednesday. A list of updates would include huge performance improvements, tethering, and the ability to create your own WiFi hotspots with your phone. Another huge feature is expected is the integration of Flash 10.1, a version finally optimized to run on mobile devices. TechCrunch is reporting that Android users with phones eligible for the 2.2 upgrade (Nexus One, Droid, and soon, HTC Evo 4g) will be greeted with a link to an Adobe Mobile website after the upgrade. This page will give you the option to "View Flash enabled websites" or "Get Adobe products." If you click on the first link, you'll get a full list of sites Adobe is featuring that take advantage of Flash 10.1. These sites include Sony Pictures, Warner Brothers, BBC, Google Finance, and a whole range of others.
In fact, the list of sites is already live for both the Nexus One and the Droid. What's odd is that the list is different depending on what device you're using (Droid shows many fewer sites). Adobe's Mobile page also lists sites enabled for Flash on the Palm Pre. And, humorously, has a page for the iPhone which has a "Get apps" link rather than a "View Flash enabled websites" link. This list seems to be a direct response to Apple's list of sites that are optimized to run on the iPad, they don't use Flash. So if Apple is not supporting flash on its ipads, its Google’s turn to take some advantage and make it a big selling point of Android phones compared to the iPhones. So if Apple is in not in good terms with Adobe, Google takes Adobe to give a tough fight to Apple. ![]() Related Posts : |

iPad carrrier not locked in Japan Posted: 18 May 2010 02:05 PM PDT There were rumors spreading that Japan’s iPad 3G customers wont be able to select their wireless data carrier and would be locked to Softbank Mobile. Finally Apple has commented on the reports and said even though Softbank will offer a 3G data plan for the multimedia tablet in Japan, but users can subscribe to other carrier packages if they take their iPad outside of the country, according to the Wall Street Journal. When the iPad was launched in January, the company said that models supporting 3G wireless data connections wouldn't be locked to specific carriers so users would have the freedom to choose the carrier and data plan they want. In Japan, however, it looks like customers will still be limited to using the plans Softbank offers because NTT DoCoMo (recently backed out of plans to carry the device) won't be offering any iPad data packages. When traveling outside Japan, users will be free to purchase SIM cards from other carriers so they won't have to pay expensive roaming charges. The clarification is also good news for iPad owners traveling to Japan since they can use Softbank's SIM cards in their tablets, too. Foxconn will be ship 24 million 4G iPhones in 2010 Posted: 18 May 2010 09:15 AM PDT According to reports from DigiTimes, Foxconn’s supposed plans to ship 24 million 4G iPhones this year, starting in June. June iPhone updates have become traditional for Apple watchers (just like iPod updates in September), and most observers expect WWDC to be this year’s launch date. According to the report, the iPhones will be divided up so that 4.5 million units go out in the first half of the year, reserving 19.5 million phones for the rest of 2010. DigiTimes analyst Ming-Chi Kuo also suggests that the new iPhones will feature a thinner, 960×640 resolution screen, which will create room for larger batteries and exceed Android’s 854×480 resolution (on the highest end). Finally, fringe-field switching (FFS) technology will improve the display’s performance in sunlight and create a wider viewing angle, just in time for iBooks on the iPhone. Note these claims with a healthy dose of your typical rumor skepticism and mark your calendars for June 7th. That’s when all will be revealed. Hopefully !! YouTube at five – 2 billion views a day Posted: 18 May 2010 02:19 AM PDT On the eve of its fifth birthday, the site says in a celebratory blog post that it is now getting more than two billion views a day. That’s up from the one billion-plus daily views YouTube said it was getting back in October, when it was marking three years in Google’s fold. That’s nearly double the number of people who tune into the US’s three prime time TV stations combined, its owners Google have said. Co-founder Chad Hurley told BBC News
The site was bought by Google near the end of 2006 for $1.65bn. Just seven months ago it clocked up one billion downloads a day.The first person to express themselves on the platform was fellow co-founder Jawed Karim who posted a 19 seconds long video called “Me at the Zoo”. It was uploaded on April 23, 2005 and can still be viewed on the site. They have made a lot of progress about weeding out illegal content,” said Allen Weiner senior vice president of research at Gartner.Industry watchers have said YouTube could possibly become part of the Google “media cloud” where people can access films, books, magazines tv shows and other digitised content.YouTube streams make up around 40% of all online video watched in the US, so there is massive scale there and lot of opportunity. If this is not all, Three athletic young adventurers have produced a video claiming to show ‘one of the most impossible-looking activities that anyone has ever seen’ – walking on water.Ulf Gartner and his friends Sebastian Vanderwerf and Miguel Delfortrie call it ‘liquid mountaineering’, a new sport that is not only challenging the laws of gravity but is also encouraging thousands of fans to slip on watertight shoes and run as fast as possible into the nearest lake. The video shows the men racing in turns into a lake in Portugal. After several false starts they manage up to nine or 10 high-speed tiptoe-like strides before their legs buckle beneath them. Times quoted Gartner as saying.
