Wordpress 3.0 Beta 1 released

Posted: 03 Apr 2010 11:59 AM PDT

For all beta testers out there, Wordpress 3.0 Beta 1 has arrived. This release as per the Wordpress blog is a early beta which is released earlier so that this weekend the beta testers can test everything until everything is finalized and polished.

Things you would need to know when testing

  • The custom menus system (Appearance > Menus) isnt done yet and in the Beta 2, the layout will be different and a bunch of the functionality will be improved. So play with making custom menus, and report bugs if you find them
  • Now you wont need a seperate installation of Wordpress MU for Multi user as this version comes with both Wordpress and Wordpress MU integrated. This does not mean that you can suddenly start adding a bunch of new blogs from within your regular WordPress Dashboard. If you're interested in testing the Super Admin stuff associated with multiple sites, take a look at some simple directions to get started.
  • Some more tweaks in the making and functionality is concentrated first then to the UI.

Things you may test
  • First thing is check out the new theme Twenty ten  which includes the custom background and header options.
  • Next you can check out how to add various types to custom post type functionality
  • Lastly for the time being the Wordpress MU and Wordpress merge to see nothing breaks up.
If you already have a test install that you want to switch over to the beta? Try the beta tester plugin.Testers, don't forget to use the wp-testers mailing list to discuss bugs you encounter.
