Microsoft coming up with a Windows Ad edition -Could come free

Posted: 07 Apr 2010 05:26 PM PDT

The concept of free OS from Microsoft was in process from the year 2005 and now Redmond giant  might make it come true. Stephen Chapman of MSFTKitchen seems the think the free edition is closer to reality than ever before, especially with businesses pushing to move software into the cloud. After a little digging, he discovered that an actual ad-based version of Windows has actually been created.

The root comes from the LinkedIn profile of a senior program manager at Microsoft. In her “resume,” she lists a prototype for advertising model in Windows called “Project Madision,” and is supposedly not the same code name used for SQL 2010. ZDNet’s Mary Jo Foley also added her two cents to the speculation, pointing out that Madision (and yes it’s misspelled, probably on purpose) may be derived from Madison Avenue in Manhattan.

If Microsoft is still pursuing the ad-based version, this could solve out some of the problems concerned with Windows piracy, or consumers intent on spreading their one license across multiple computers (via crack). But one thing surprises me is, how does it benefit Microsoft ? ”In theory, you could use a “Windows Ads Edition” or something where you've basically opted for ads to stream to you in exchange for your free usage of Windows,” Chapman quoted.

The idea seems to be a pretty good strategy to mint some more money.Advertising Businesses would certainly scramble to get their ad on millions of Windows-based desktops, and Microsoft would simply float in a sea of money.Consumers who actually purchase a version of Windows wouldn’t receive the ad-based input. Instead, it would be locked on to those users who can’t afford/refuse to purchase a  legal copy of Windows, but still want to use  or get OS – the legit way and not moving into unrestricted sites for a copy. This could turn profitable for Microsoft. What do you feel ? Can Microsoft curb piracy and stop the WGA activation of Windows Seven ? Let me hear your views on it !

Lenovo C200 brings Nvidia Ion 2 for $499

Previously i had posted about Nvidia ion 2 GPU spotted in the Acer Aspire  One notebook and in case you are looking for a cheap Nvidia Ion 2 system then Lenovo has given a solution for this by uneveiling a Atom/Geforce combo system. This would probably be released sometime this month. This comes with a 18.5-inch Intel dual-core Atom D510 CPU which can handle the light productivity while its GeForce G210 GPU will automatically turn on to deal with 1080p video. Unfortunately the C200 only has a single touch, 1366×768-resolution display and a standard integrated DVD drive rather than Blu-ray, but isnt it too much to expect from the much appealing $499 price tag. Lenovo will also offer a sans Ion and touch version of the C200 for $399.Check out the pics.
