ABC and CBS to stream free HTML 5 TV shows to the iPad Posted: 01 Apr 2010 02:32 PM PDT Engadget reports via WSJ that ABC and CBS are hard at work adapting episodes of their TV shows for the iPad, which will be streaming for free once the iPad launches this Saturday.ABC would use app tipped for April 3rd giving iPad owners WiFi access to full episodes of shows whereas CBS will stream over the web through the iPad's Safari browser.CBS has promised episodes of Survivor on day one, along with promos for other shows including the sitcom How I Met Your Mother.
Critics initially argued that the iPad would not be ideal for watching video online as most of the websites would use flash but ipad doesn’t have flash though so some sites are using HTML5 technology. In addition to this there is a also a Netflix iPad app.The free Neflix app is said to be launching along side Apple’s slate on April 3rd letting Netflix subscribers browse and manage their queues. More importantly, it will also allow subscribers to stream Netflix’s online collection of videos. You would just need to get Netflix on your iPad.Just download this free app and you can instantly watch TV shows & movies streaming from Netflix. • Watch as often as you want • It's part of your unlimited Netflix membership • Resume watching where you left off on your TV or computer • Browse movies and manage your Queue right from your iPad Not a Netflix member? Some CBS shows will also be available on day one via the iPad-compatible TV.com iPhone app. NBC also offers some of its shows on an iPhone-friendly version of NBC.com that will presumably work on the iPad as well. Also Hulu app is also rumored to be in the process with a subscription model.Even Encoding.com plans to optimize video for iPad. There are 1350(+ counting) approved iPad apps or take a look at the video for the 700 of the apps.It seems like the apps are coming straight from Apple’s app database since AppShopper is also showing Netflix and ABC Player iPad apps. The new version of iTunes brings support for the upcoming iPad on iPhone 3.2, a new "Books" section which replaces the existing "Audiobooks" section in the iTunes Store and more improvements to Genius Mixes feature. You would actually need to go to Apple.com/itunes site to download it as some say they were not able to get a update notification. iTunes 9.1 comes with several new features and improvements, including: • Sync with iPad to enjoy your favorite music, movies, TV shows, books and more on the go • Organize and sync books you've downloaded from iBooks on iPad or added to your iTunes library • Rename, rearrange, or remove Genius Mixes
The new update doesn't do anything like radically change the iTunes interface. Instead, it is focused on providing support for the iPad, which launches this Saturday.
