HTC EVO 4G With 8MP Camera, Android 2.1 OS Coming To Sprint

Posted: 26 Mar 2010 07:35 AM PDT

There were rumors previously that WiMAX “HTC Supersonic” would be released but Sprint just gave the news that the phone would be dubbed the HTC EVO 4G.This would be the  world's first 3G/4G Android smartphone, combining enhanced mobile features with a suite of services built on Android 2.1 OS, aimed for a rich mobile Internet experience. Availability would be somewhere in this summer. This is freaking awesome phone with the same specs as of HTC HD2.The handset is centered around a 480 x 800 4.3-inch TFT LCD, with a Snapdragon QSD8650 1GHz processor under the hood (the CDMA version of the QSD8250 in the HD2 and Nexus One), and even a helpful 1GB of built-in memory and 512MB of RAM.

Even the battery is bigger than the HD2, and the camera is an 8 megapixel monstrosity with flash, that’s capable of 720p video, and is augmented by a 1.3 megapixel front facing camera for good measure. The phone features HDMI out (though you’ll need an adapter for turning it into a TV-familiar HDMI plug), 802.11b/g WiFi, and an 8GB microSD card. There’s that still-rare Android 2.1 underneath an updated version of HTC’s Sense UI.Despite all these wild features, what actually sets the EVO 4G apart is the fact that it’s Sprint’s first 4G phone. The handset runs a combo of EV-DO Rev. A and WiMAX, with calls still being made over CDMA and the EV-DO / WiMAX options for data. One other new feature is the Sprint hotspot app, another MiFi-style connection sharing number, which is obviously aided greatly by the WiMAX on board and can support up to seven concurrent users..

Engadget got the press shots and hands on pics of the HTC EVO 4G.In addition to this they also did a comparison of Nexus and the Droid  with EVO and HTC EVO 4G vs. iPhone vs. Nexus One along with HD2 vs. Desire with EVO.

According to the release, Sprint 4G that currently available in 27 markets offers blazing-fast download speeds up to 10 times faster than 3G speeds, making HTC EVO 4G possible to download music, pictures, files or videos in seconds.

Sprint continues to lead the 4G revolution as we introduce HTC EVO 4G to give our customers an experience that is unlike anything available in wireless to date, commented Dan Hesse, CEO of Sprint. Not only is this feature-rich device incredible on our Sprint 3G network, but Sprint 4G speeds will take mobile multimedia, including live video streaming, gaming and picture downloads, to a whole new level.

Sprint and HTC have come together to propel the Android platform into the 4G world with the introduction of HTC EVO 4G, said Andy Rubin, vice president of mobile platforms for Google. The Android platform was developed to give people unmatched mobile connectivity to the Internet. By combining this vision with the promise of Sprint's first-to-market 4G technology, HTC EVO 4G makes accessing thousands of applications from Android Market, using Google services like Google Goggles, Google Earth and the all-new Gesture Search, or simply browsing the Web faster, easier and more enjoyable than ever before.
