Google says 99.9% out from China, bids farewell probably by April 10 Posted: 19 Mar 2010 07:52 AM PDT After the prolonged Google-China battle fiasco,Financial times had reported that Google is "99.9 percent certain" that it will shut its China search engine at Google.cn. It has been eight weeks since Google said it would no longer censor search in China.Chinese gov had played smarter and didnt do anything stupid or rash like preemptively shutting Google.cn, possibly on the pretense of porn on Google.cn.Instead, they reiterated that all companies in China need to obey Chinese law and waited for Google to make a move. “If you don’t respect Chinese laws, you are unfriendly and irresponsible, and the consequences will be on you,” China’s Minister of Industry and Information Technology, Li Yizhong, told reporters on Friday in answer to a question on what China would do if Google.cn simply stopped filtering search results.A Chinese daily is reporting that Google may cease operations in China as early as April 10.The final date would be announced after Google employees would receive their annual year-end bonus. So by Monday we would arrive a date when Google says sayonara to China. Google currently controls about 36 percent of China’s search market, which currently stands at about 400 million users and grows by 250,000 every day. What would be the consequence is Chinese search engine Baidu would gain market shares and chances of Bing too is possible because when chinese people look for something outside of china, they don’t use Baidu, they use google, because it’s foreigner too.So Bing does have chances specially because Microsoft made it clear they were not leaving China. Now if google.cn closes down, that doesn’t mean Google.com won’t work Chinese would still be available. As Google says adieu to China after failing to reach a truce with the Chinese government over censorship,it’s also battling with Verizon Communications.According to a person familiar with this matter, Verizon has been the main company pressing the Federal Trade Commission to investigate, with an eye toward blocking, Google’s $750 million acquisition of mobile advertising company AdMob.This person said Verizon is fretting that the AdMob deal could be a precursor to Google launching its own wireless network, thus becoming a competitor to Verizon Wireless, the cellphone venture co-owned by Verizon and Europe’s Vodafone.Verizon did not comment on this. However, Google owns a stake in wireless broadband company Clearwire, which is developing so-called 4G networks that are faster than the already-speedy 3G networks offered by the major carriers.”Verizon is challenging this because Google is disrupting wireless by building their own phone network,” the source said.Verizon offers a number of Android-driven phones aimed at chipping away at the dominance of the iPhone, which is only available in the US through Verizon rival AT&T.So with Google’s Nexus one this might seem to be profitable deal. Posted: 19 Mar 2010 07:14 AM PDT Finally !! After all the hassle i suffered, Tech mania is back with a new theme and a new hosting.Basically my dreamhost account was close to its expiry date and I had to move asap to a new host and I knew it’s time to move to Host gator now.So I had all my back ups done and I moved all the files to the hosting account, but I faced helluva of issues to get things back to normal. What happened was, when I tryed to import my xml file of all the posts done, the importing took a lot of time and used to stop abruptly. I tryed again and again with different back ups and on different browsers. Results was the same.I was in this intense situation.Nothing flashed into my mind.I contacted Host gator support to see if the max execution time was set to 0 or not. They advised me that the values for the same could not be changed and suggested me an alternate way by going through phpmyadmin and then do a import of the database. I tryed that too and it failed there too. I was like is something wrong with my sql file.So I logged into my dreamhost control panel to download the back up file again but i wasn’t able to login to phpmyadmin. Here goes again.Had to change my nameservers back to DH ones and then take a backup again. What a pain ! Then moved back to host gator tryed the process again via the phpmyadmin first import was a success.Atlast I was feeling happy that it would go smoothly but my happiness was for a short time, Why ? coz when I log into my admin side I see half of the posts missing again and categories showing zero posts even though I had posts in the front end. I was like why does it happen to me and was cursing god ! Finally I contacted Host gator support again and they did a import of all the posts and categories. You think this was all ! To add more frustration, my Visual editor was never being displayed and after some research I finally found a fix for the same.First of all I was occupied with my official work and here I couldnt get time to fix. After a week full of sleepless nights finally it has paid me fruits, from tweaking of theme to fixing admin side issues and server side issues.Phew that was bad not only for me but for my dear readers too. I just had so much to share.Everything seems normal now.I will get back again as I was earlier.Do let me know how do you find the new design and the speed of the site.Suggestions are welcome.
