Tenda W311U Wireless-N USB Adapter review: Painstakingly cheap but it works!

A computer without access to a wired connection to a router is sailing alone on traveled waters and all you have is a wireless access point nearby. What do you do? Get a wireless USB adapter! My main criteria for the wireless USB adapter is something cheap but does the job. It doesn’t matter whether it’s branded Linksys, D-Link, Edimax, TP-Link, Netgear or Tenda.

The W311U is Wireless-N capable but I don’t have a router that is equipped with such technology. In fact, I am only using an 802.11b connection. The product comes in a simple box package which contains the USB wireless adapter along with a small CD containing the driver and user guide for the device.

Setup of the software is pretty straight forward, just run it, follow the instructions and plug the USB device in. It should get itself up and working right then and there. An interesting feature of the device is that it is able to act as an access point for other computers to connect to. Tenda calls it Soft AP mode. Haven’t really tried it myself yet but will update accordingly when I do.

The Tenda W311U Wireless-N USB Adapter cost me P585.00 or approximately $12.50 USD. It does what it’s supposed to do (connect to a wireless router or a wireless access point and gain internet access).
