Sony BDP-S760 Beautiful Design Blu-ray Player

Posted: 21 Jan 2010 08:35 PM PST

Spin it 180 degrees and you’re faced with a full line up for blocks. Of course, the HDMI is the first place, leaving component, S-Video and composite analog able to provide backup. On the audio you get analog 7.1-channel and a choice of outputs and optical digital audio, each of which can be used if your AV receiver does not quite caught the revolution complete HDMI.

Sony BDP-S760 Blu-ray Player

Sony standalone Blu-ray has long been considered a poor cousin of the PS3, but the BDP-S760 can be the bridge to change that perception. Well, you can not play games on it, but it is the most feature-packed Sony deck day and more significantly the first company to boast built-in Wi-fi. Making it a direct competitor to the huge LG BD390, which is always our reference Blu-ray, but at about £ 50 Discount challenger Sony has cut its development hit the Korean king off his throne. Let’s see how he fares.

First, we discuss the design. The BDP-S760 player is a much chunkier than the BDP-S360, presumably to accommodate the additional electronic components for these brand new flash. But despite its extra girth is a beautifully styled player, excited by a thin light blue front and a silver, seductive cover. The front panel display is too small to read comfortably from a typical viewing distance, but it contains a selection of useful information – including a few ‘WLAN’ light confirms Wi-Fi is enabled. Naturally, our eye is also drawn to the USB port on the right side, which lets you view JPEG photos on your TV, but strangely no MP3 or DivX. All in all this is an attractive and beautifully built machine. [via trustedreviews]
