Philips BDP7500 Blu-ray Premium Player

Posted: 15 Jan 2010 11:30 PM PST

IFA After reading the myriad of new Blu-ray last year in Berlin, Philips’ this bridge was one of the few to leave a lasting impression. Not so much because of its feature list (which looks quite impressive), but more because of his strikingly unusual appearance, which could be a landmark new aesthetic for the budget of marketing midrange. And after finally hand over a sample, it seems just as delectable as it did then.

Philips BDP7500 Blu-ray Player

Although it does not deviate too far from the classic series in the form of set-top box, the BDP7500 always looks different from anything we’ve seen before. Using a mirror fascia slightly sloping, beautiful sparkling silver highlights and rim ‘on the bottom give it the true star quality, but there still is – a strategically placed light blue below the lip adds Hi speed Extra-tech, and the icing on the cake is the touch line illuminated controls sensitive part of the mirror in front.

Not only is it beautiful, but the BDP7500 has also aimed to boost the quality you expect to find on a premium player. The casing is made of rigid, vibration-resistant aluminum and it feels much more robust than most players at this price point. And our fascination with the look is not as superficial as one might think – with so many players budget now offers many similar levels of performance and the same features, looks could be a deciding factor for many buyers.

But enough drooling for now let us pass with more mundane matters of sockets. On this front the Philips will not let you fail, with a selection that includes HDMI, component and composite video outputs, and a house full audio output – optical / coaxial digital audio, analog stereo and a set of 7.1-channel analog outputs. It is useful to channel hi-res audio to an AV receiver without HDMI. As required by 2 .0 Profile spec which joins the bridge, there is an Ethernet port on the back for every need BD-Live download your file.

About BD-Live, Philips did not build a Wi-Fi in this player, as with the LG BD390. The wired connection is your only way of catching the BDP7500 to the canvas, which is not the end of the world, but we still can not see that many people irritated with BD-Live, unless that player can connect to the wireless Web.
