Watch Windows 7 video describing older versions of Windows Posted: 26 Oct 2009 03:44 AM PDT Windows 7 is now released worldwide following October 22nd, many of them are liking the new OS from Microsoft.I am totally loving it. Currently in RTM build but once it expires planning to buy.I am not sure which one to buy though.I got this Windows 7 video Youtube which shows the different earlier versions released by Microsoft.Looks good and i recommend giving it a look. By the way have you wondered why Windows 7 is called Windows Seven ? Mike Nash @WindowsBlog explains the reason for it.
As you can see from the video it shows the older versions of Windows. But if you are still confused why Seven only.VG gave a wonderful explaination how the heirarchy is.First Windows version was Windows 1.0. Next to follow was Windows 2.0 and third came Windows 3.0. When Windows NT was released, it was code versioned as Windows 3.1. Windows 95, 98, 98 SE and ME (Millennium Edition) were code versioned as Windows 4.0 as all were using Non-NT kernel or 9x kernel. Windows 2000 was code versioned as Windows 5.0 and Windows XP as Windows 5.1. Next version was Windows Vista which was code versioned as Windows 6.0.You could see this in your system information about the build it shows the version number and the build number just above the Service pack notification. Since Windows 7 is the next Windows version, Microsoft decided to call it Windows 7 for easy and better understanding.Windows 7 is code named as Windows 6.1 due to backward compatibility.
