2 apps to enable Virtual Desktop in Windows 7 Posted: 19 Oct 2009 04:17 AM PDT Natively Windows 7 doesnt have Virtual desktop support but with the following two apps i post you can achieve this functionality.The names of apps are Dexpot and Vdesktop.Both are backward compatible with Vista and Xp too.Check out on how do you go about it. Dexpot : Dexpot 1.4 allows you to create up to 20 virtual desktops. It creates and manages virtual desktops. This free program enables you to work with many simultaneously opened windows on a variety of MS operating systems beginning with XP, Vista and Windows7.Download the executable file and follow the steps below. Once the program is installed run it from startmenu or the shortcut gets created on the desktop.You will also see a icon in the right hand side of taskbar.Right click and click on Configure desktops and then you get the screen as show below. Now just tweak the options for differnt set of desktops on the left hand side.Changing the back ground image is a good way to differentiate between the differnt desktops. Once you have done you will see a small strip of bar of 4 desktops on the right hand side of taskbar as shown below.Select the desktop which you want to access Once the program is installed run it from startmenu or the shortcut gets created on the desktop.You will also see a icon in the right hand side of taskbar. In the taskbar Right click on Dexpot icon and click on Configure desktops and then you get the screen as show below. Now just tweak the options for differnt set of desktops on the left hand side.Changing the back ground image is a good way to differentiate between the differnt desktops.Once you have done you will see a small strip of bar of 4 desktops on the right hand side of taskbar as shown below.Select the desktop which you want to access vDesktop: This is one more alternative on Windows to achieve the Virtual Windows capability.Currently working on XP and vista but Windows 7 will be made soon.Download the program in terms of rar file extract it or double click the rar file vDesktop_0.0.2.Now open vKapse.VirtualDesktop.exe as shown in the below screenshot Once double clicked you get a icon in the right hand side of superbar.Check below.
