Patch to enable PhysX when ATi card is present Posted: 13 Oct 2009 02:36 PM PDT There has been issues with Nvidia, disabling Physx when ATI cards are present. As you might know that Windows 7 allows two display drivers to be used at once – like in Windows XP.Therefore, it is possible to use an Nvidia card for PhysX and ATI card for graphics rendering. Sadly, since the release of 186 graphics drivers, Nvidia has decided to block this feature anytime a Non-Nvidia GPU is present in the system. In addition, for some incomprehensible reasons, the latest version of PhysX System Software also prevents PPU cards from working if a Non-Nvidia GPU is present. As expected, this move by Nvidia generated a lot of criticism from both consumers and even Nvidia’s competitors. Luckily, a forum member by the name of GenL has released an experimental beta patch which intercepts disable-PhysX-if-Radeon-is-present-code. So far, according to user comments the patch delivers successful results. At this stage, the patch only works for PhysX GPU rendering and not PPU rendering. However, the developer claims that work is still in progress.Do try out the patch and post your comments on the success rate. |

Several gaming-oriented sites on the net have released evidence of confirmation from AMD that over twenty DirectX 11 titles are currently in development, with one already available and two more releasing before the end of Q4 2009. Before the end of this year, the list includes the now-available freeware title Battleforge (EA), S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat (GSC), and Dirt 2 (CodeMasters).Check out Dirt 2 graphics looks freaking awesome. S.T.A.L.K.E.R. has recently been delayed until Q1 2010 but we can expect to see the latest Alien vs. Predator glimmer in DirectX 11 glory in a few months this coming February.Around the same timeframe, Lord of the Rings Online and Dungeons and Dragons Online: Eberron Unlimited will receive patch updates to support the new graphics rendering API. In the same span of time we can expect China's popular MMORPG-market title Genghis Khan to receive a graphics API update as well.In addition to games, several engines will be supporting DirectX 11 in 2010 including the Frostbite 2 Engine (EA DICE), Uniengine Engine (Uniengine), Vision Engine (Trinigy), and the highly anticipated CryEngine 3 (CryTek). |
