Western Digital WDTV Live HD Original Media Player

Posted: 29 Oct 2009 05:50 AM PDT

WDTV original Western Digital has been one of our favorite products of last year. Never before have we seen such an easy to use Media Player, which can play both formats and so little cost. Of course, time waits for no man or one company, however, and there are now many competing devices that offer similar functionality available or better for the same price. So today we look at Western Digital long-awaited successor to the WDTV the WDTV Live.

Western Digital WDTV Live HD Media Player

Like the original, the main objective of Live WDTV is playing on your TV, music, video and photos of USB hard drives, USB drives or other storage device that can be connected via USB. With this model there are some additions, though. Chief among these is the network connectivity, which appears as an Ethernet jack on the back. There is no integrated wireless but you can use a wireless adapter wire or wireless USB adapter (a list of compatible cards is available here). Once connected, you can access shared drives or media servers in your home network and connect to a number of online services. At present it is either YouTube, Live365 Internet Radio, Pandora music streaming, and Flickr, but we are led to believe May will be other services available in the coming months. LG Flatron W2230S 22in LCD HD Monitor

Posted: 29 Oct 2009 01:00 AM PDT

Samsung was first in the market to LAPF D190 and now we are checking out LG’s first entrant in this arena, the Flatron W2230. Part of the W30-series of monitors, which includes a 18.5in model, and this effort 21.5IN features attractions such as a slim 37mm depth and a maximum resolution Full HD.LG Flatron W2230S - 22in Laptop Monitor

Installation is a doddle, since there is nothing to attach or screw in. Simply connect the power cable and brick, pull the leg hinged at the back and you’re almost ready to go . The tilt range offered by the smooth-sliding leg is better than the Samsung, and the two pads at the bottom of the screen are thin enough to give the illusion that the screen is not really based on the merits of its bezel.

Of course it must also connect it to your PC and that’s where we come to the first disappointment W2230. You see, as with the D190 LAPF, VGA video input only. Unlike Samsung, however, which offers models LAPF with digital connections as well, LG does not have this option, all for now.
This is not so bad if your laptop does not have a digital connection, but even netbooks moving to HDMI, with Ion models equipped according to the tastes of Asus and HP, not to mention the Samsung N510 we reviewed recently all who bid.

Quality Construction, on the other hand, is quite decent. Of course, you can not expect a product at this price point to be built like a tank, but the plastics are quite strong and fit and finish overall is very good. If you catch it by the corners and Twist, however, the monitor and not decline significantly, so much care when it is advisable to move. [via trustedreviews]

Pentax Optio WS80 Digital Camera

Posted: 28 Oct 2009 07:00 PM PDT

For most of the past four years, if you want to buy a compact camera waterproof, you could choose either a Pentax Optio W series, or something of the range Olympus Mju SW, but the recent growth in popularity adventure sports and outdoor activities holiday has opened the market for cameras that are waterproof, and in some cases, shock and freeze-proof. Most major manufacturers have recently introduced new cameras in this category, but it is mostly expensive luxury items. These newcomers must be cut into sales Optio W80 excellent but expensive, because the response from Pentax has been to add a secondary pricing model to its line waterproof, the Optio WS80.

Pentax Optio WS80 Digital Camera

The WS80 is not the only low-cost camera tight on the market, and it is not even the least expensive either. His only real competition is the Fujifilm FinePix Z33 WP, around £ 120 manages to make even the WS80 £ 180 look expensive. However, the Z33 can not match the specification of WS80, because it provides some specifications quite decent for the money.

The Optio WS80 camera is compact and lightweight with a 10.0 megapixel CCD sensor, a 5x internal optical zoom equivalent to 35-175mm and 1280 x 720 30fpd HD video recording. It is waterproof to a depth of 1.5 meters for a maximum of two hours, and can be rinsed under the tap if it gets muddy. Although the camera body is plastic its tiles form feels strong and durable, and even if it is not advertised as shockproof it does seem and feel capable of surviving a stroke and a few bumps. The lens is protected behind a cover of hollow glass, and light weight of the apparatus 125g including card and battery means it is light enough to bounce rather than Smash (probably!) The WS80 is available in a variety of colors, with stripes of black and orange light here, and white striped pink, white with black stripes and a yellow rather scary with green stripes.
