Microsoft to offer Windows 7 for £30/30$

Posted: 18 Sep 2009 04:53 PM PDT

Good news for students who are in US and  would love to get Windows 7 for a cheaper rate then here is the chance.Microsoft have announced that they will be selling Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 7 Professional for just £30 in the UK or $30 in the US to Students from October 1st.The software giant says the offer is designed to coincide with the start of the new academic year and will enable university students to upgrade to the latest operating system.

The offer is open to any UK student with a valid university or college email address (i.e. an email address ending in .ac.uk) and will expire on 3 January 2010, at which time the costs will revert to their normal prices. For verification, the student should possess a valid e-mail address at a U.S. educational institution which contains the domain suffix .edu or an email address given by one of the pre-approved universities or colleges listed here.

Microsoft seems determined to let most students have Windows 7, thus if your institution is not listed, it's possible to manually submit university or school email address for verification, or manually submit verifiable school enrollment such as ID via the manual validation process.

The Windows 7 discount offer for U.S. students is promoted through "741 – You're the one" marketing campaign, which obviously means Windows 7 for you, at www.win741.com. The Windows 7 operating system product, if pre-ordered, will be delivered on October 22nd, 2009, the official Windows 7 launch date, via an email which will contain a link to access the download of the product. Customers can also pay an extra $13 to have the physical media as Backup DVD, where the disks delivery will also be shipped around this date, with a separate shipping confirmation email will be sent confirming the shipment.

In an email to Neowin Microsoft said:

Students will benefit from many of Windows 7's unique functions and applications which make PC's easier, simpler and more fun to use. For those students who have the latest laptops with touch screen technology, Windows 7 comes with enhanced capabilities for an enriched touch experience, allowing a more direct and natural way to work – it's also perfect for netbooks. Other features include remote media streaming, improved gaming experience, enhanced security and integration of Windows Media Centre for more central and convenient management of music, movies and photos.

Microsoft is also planning to offer a similar deal in Canada, Australia, Korea, Mexico, France and Germany, though the prices will probably vary somewhat and Microsoft is yet to confirm detail. The company added that there will also be a special promotional price for Windows 7 Professional as well, but hasn’t said how much thus far. We were unable to reach Microsoft for further comment at the time of publication. Details will presumably pop up on the Student pre-order website nearer to the offer’s start date.

Regardless this is a great deal for students  as Windows 7 Home Premium will retail for $119.99 and Windows 7 Professional for $199.99 and is aimed at students who aren't planning on buying a new PC this year.Nothing as such as planned for India though.

The Windows 7 ultimate steal for students can be purchased at http://windows7.digitalriver.com/store/mswpus/en_US/DisplayHomePage.

HTC Leo Spotted

Posted: 18 Sep 2009 03:10 PM PDT

HTC Leo a Windows Mobile phone having version 6.5 has been spotted. The monstrous handset houses what i have heard has a  4.3-inch screen, and the hardware info screen shows it to be pumping an 800 x 480 resolution with a 1GHz Qualcomm 8250B Snapdragon processor(faster than a Iphone 3 G S) and updated TouchFlow 3D with Dual Led flash.Don’t think you read it wrong.Yes it’s a 1Ghz processor on a Mobile phone.Only thing it disappoints me is that its not a Android phone.Price will be damn costly when it comes to India, somewhere around 35k.It dwarfs the Touch Pro2 (a largish handset in its own right) in head to head comparisons, and seems strikingly similar to earlier leaks.Only thing HTC lack is good battery life. The battery won’t last long hardly 2 hours i feel. Check out the pics below.
