Google Android Modder G1 Applications Posted: 26 Sep 2009 03:00 PM PDT People modder who created cyanogen, modded ROM Android, has been recently affected by a cease and desist from Google telling him not to distribute applications to closed-source. This includes Gmail, Maps and Youtube are often a part of its drive. Cyanogen is a ROM that works on phones like the G1, which is already designed to run these applications, it seems a bit strange that Google are trying to prevent. Another problem is that Android Market is expected to closed-source too, even if the ROM has been installed then you could actually fight for downloading applications. Maybe Google and cyanogen can learn something together. [via gadgetvenue] a |

Panasonic DMP-B15 Portable Blu-ray Player Navigation Posted: 26 Sep 2009 09:00 AM PDT The unit is not particularly compact or elegant, but it is solidly constructed and has an unusual design. The screen folds open like a regular portable drive, but then you must rotate the screen 180 degrees, pull down and prop it up like a picture frame using the plastic seal on the back . This in turn makes viewing a little more complicated than usual, especially since the stand does not stop flush with the back panel, and all the buttons are poorly placed along the top edge. These include reading, select AV and volume controls, and a small joystick for menu navigation. The lower section houses bulky disc tray and built-in speakers, while on the side, you will find a generous array of connections. Note especially HDMI output for supplying the hi-def picture (available in 1080/24p) and bit stream HD audio to a receiver when using the DMP-B15 as a Blu-ray scheduled. He is joined by a headphone jack and a single mini jack that outputs AV Composite Video / stereo audio and supports the same signals from external sources. Because the DMP-B15 is a Profile 2.0 player, there’s also an Ethernet port that lets you connect to the Internet and download movie extras. As a bonus, you can also access Panasonic Viera Cast gate and watch movies on YouTube or see their photos in Google Picasa. This is as smooth and pleasant to use as regular Panasonic Blu-ray decks, but the novelty factor is increased to be displayed on the small screen. [via trustedreviews] a |

Samsung ML-2855ND Monochrome Laser Printer Posted: 26 Sep 2009 03:45 AM PDT Have a thought for the humble, monochrome laser printer. Color Inkjet All-in-one seems to get all the development funds these days, so how can a laser mono compete? The answer seems to be more of the same, that small businesses and small lasers work group becomes a little faster and a little cheaper to run. The ML-2855DN is the latest release from Samsung midrange. Despite its impressive features, the ML-2855ND is a very compact machine, with a remarkably low profile. Its upper surface is largely filled with a tray out of the box, but it is also a small, flip-over paper stop you will not need to use A4 paper and a simple control panel. This includes a 16 character by 2 line, backlit LCD screen, a ring-shaped plate menu commands, with an OK button in the center ring and attractive blue LED on the outside with a Cancel button and status light. Simple controls, but everything you need for this style of machine. At the bottom of the front panel is a paper tray 250 sheet a second plate of the same capacity is available as an option and a fold down 50-sheet multipurpose tray. It’s good to have a secondary tray that can take more than one sheet. Data taken at the back are USB 2.0 and Ethernet, both of which are standard. Pull down the entire front and you have access to the integrated drum and toner cartridge. This is not one of those clips where a toner cartridge on a cartridge drum carrier, but has an integrated cartridge life is 2,000 or 5,000 pages, depending on the model. Installation is simple, as the cartridge slides horizontally in the printer and positively locates the end of his trip. [via trustedreviews] a |

Posted: 25 Sep 2009 09:45 PM PDT Buy.com had a cool Sega Genesis available which offers 20 pre-loaded games built in. It allows you to play classics from the 90’s with games like Sonic, Ecco, Golden Ax, to name a few. The Genesis features a 2.4 “screen and the directional pad to the left and A, B, C buttons on the right of the screen. This is not the most attractive design, but considering it is home to some of greatest games I can live with that. Genesis Mobile costs $ 50 and is available on Buy. [via gadgetvenue] a |
