Posted: 24 Sep 2009 09:34 AM PDT Latest version of Opera for their browser was not long, but in its first week has been downloaded more than 10 million times, a review of Opera 10 has now shown on MacRumors and looks into the overall performance, the features and interface improvements. Performance wise Opera performs well enough, but it is not the fastest browser available, they have conducted a series of tests on a MacBook 2GHz Core 2 Duo, one of the tests involved made a test page XHTML, Firefox took 2.66 seconds, Opera took 1.83 seconds and Safari 4 took 49 seconds. Another test was a test CSS, Firefox was again the slowest taking 361M, Opera and Safari 152 ms again makes the best taking only 35 ms, where the opera itself was dropped performance with JavaScript, MacRumors have done the SunSpider JavaScript test, Opera took 6144.6 ms, 1464.4 took Firefox and Safari still the best score is 756.4 ms.Obviously benchmarks do not tell the whole story, design and functionality is also extremely important, certain features such as Speed Dial is great but some of these traits seem quite irrelevant in a Web browser. Ipod iPhone Altec Lansing inMotion Max Player Posted: 24 Sep 2009 05:49 AM PDT Lord knows there is no shortage of iPod docks around, most of them quite forgettable. However, though most will work with an iPhone, the handset must first be put into “airplane mode” to enjoy music without being bothered by interference from mobile signal. Which we think you’ll agree, it lacks a little point of having an iPhone. This is well able to listen to music if it means missing calls? Enter the Altec Lansing inMotion MAX, which is part of a small number of systems with electromagnetic shielding required for the uninterrupted reading iPhone without flight mode. In addition to this essential characteristic, the inMotion Max also offers an FM radio and an internal battery good for 3.5 hours of use. Therefore, the system can be used as a portable speaker system or radio, either around the house or perhaps later. It is a useful option to have, but if you do not need, then you pay obviously a feature you might not use all that often. However, it also has the advantage of providing a battery backup in case of power outage, which could be useful if you choose to use the system as your alarm clock. To do this, however, you’ll need an iPhone or an iPod plugged in, since the inMotion Max not having a clock function of its own. Instead it will project the chime alarm produced by your iPhone / iPod when he goes. Hardly a knock-out feature, but nevertheless useful, especially given your unit load at night when it is connected. Given this feature alarm, the inMotion Max is perfectly suited to be a mini-stereo bedroom could be moved around the house when the time comes. However, while at first glance it seems that it would not take too much space, with plaque stabilization extended to the rear docking mechanism at the front and the footprint of 310mm wide, the inMotion Max may be a little large for that task. Some may not mind too much, but rather depends on the size of your bedside table is and how much space you’re willing to give up. [via trustedreviews] a |
Samsung C6625 Windows Explorer Smartphone Posted: 24 Sep 2009 01:05 AM PDT Samsung has not exactly been shouting from the rooftops about its Windows Powered Smartphone-C6625, but that does not mean that the handset is not worthy of consideration. In fact, the surface at least, it looks like a pretty decent phone messaging, thanks to its robust build quality, a full QWERTY keyboard and GPS onboard. In the United Kingdom that this phone is available exclusively on the original tariff and non-obscure BT Talk Time which is aimed at small businesses, but it can now be picked up on a beach of networks or purchased SIM free for around £ 150. The C6625 is clearly intended for those who traditionally buy a BlackBerry type device because it follows the standard pattern of mobile phone messaging - with a large screen above and a full QWERTY keyboard sitting under - close enough. The 2.6in display phone has a large aspect ratio screen, but it only has a resolution of 320 x 240, which is disappointing compared to today’s standards. We’re used to seeing a lot of very high resolution on players like BlackBerry 8900. The low resolution is particularly evident in applications such as mobile versions of Microsoft Excel and Internet Explorer when you are having to do a lot of scrolling because not that much of the page is visible at all times. However, the screen is fairly bright and produces good, strong colors for photos, videos and watch a little better than you’d expect. Rather than opting for fancy buttons or optical track pad, Samsung has taken with mechanical keys and a standard four-way D-pad on this model, but it’s not a bad thing because these touch buttons feel much better use in our opinion. With the traditional center of the telescope D-Pad, there are two software keys placed directly below the screen, and a home button, back button and two buttons for call control. The only other buttons on the handset are rocker switch volume on the left edge and the power button located on the upper left corner. [via trustedreviews] a |
