One important factor in Windows 7 which users would require is the support of all video codec’s so that they don’t need to download third party codec packs.I prefer Windows media player 12 along with VLC player and some times Kmplayer.I don’t feel like installing codec packs. But if your are not comfortable as i am using 3 players then you can try out Windows 7 Direct Show Filters which i believe is not buggy and bloat oriented.

CLSid one of the ffdshow developers has created a tool that handles setting up of prefered codec’s without the intervene of the user in Windows 7 Media center. This tool works on both 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 7.So give it a try.

Supported formats:

  • H.264

  • MPEG-2
  • VC-1
