AMD to launch AM3 Sempron processors Posted: 22 Jul 2009 05:42 PM PDT AMD is preparing its first set of Sempron processors based on the DDR3 supportive AM3 package. The first one is codenamed “Sargas” which is a single-core chip that comes across as a single-core variant of the Athlon II X2 “Regor“. It features a broad 3.6 GT/s HyperTransport 3.0 system interface,128 KB of L1 and 1 MB of L2 cache,a dual-channel DDR2/DDR3 memory interface, an up-to-date AMD feature and instruction-set including AMD64, SSE4A, and AMD-V.Still don’t understand why cache is not increased.Common get some competition with INTEL. Sargas is built on ‘Global Foundries’45 nm SOI process and has an operating voltage range of 0.85 ~ 1.35 V.The first SKU based on this core is the Sempron X1 140 (model: SDX140HBGQBOX).It has a clock speed of 2.70 GHz, and a bus multiplier of 13.5x. At that speed, its TDP is rated at 45W. It will be available towards the end of this week, priced around 35 Euro. Via Techpowerup

Windows 7 finally RTM’ed Posted: 22 Jul 2009 05:28 PM PDT Finally Microsoft has officially announced Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 has reached Release to Manufacturing(RTM) at Microsoft Global Exchange Conference (MGX) and now will be available for OEM’s and other partners. Microsoft Global Exchange (MGX) is an internal Microsoft conference for Microsoft’s global sales teams and evangelists. Steve Ballmer,Chief Executive Officer at Microsoft,will confirm that Microsoft has finalised Windows 7 during his speech at an employee conference in Atlanta,Georgia. Brandon Leblanc quotes Today after all the validation checks were met, we signed off and declared build 7600 as RTM.Today's release is the result of hard work and collaboration with our partners in the industry to make Windows 7 a success. We delivered Windows 7 with a predictable feature set on a predictable timetable that allowed OEMs to focus on value and differentiation for their customers.Windows 7 today runs great on the broadest array of hardware types ranging from netbooks to high-end gaming machines. Today they are also announcing that Windows Server 2008 R2 has RTM'd. Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 together can help businesses cut costs and increase productivity. The RTM code will be delivered to our partners within the next few days who will then start preparing to deliver some amazing new products timed to hit at General Availability (GA) of Windows 7 on October 22nd.
