ATI’s DirectX 11 chip ‘RV870′release date unclear

Posted: 20 Jul 2009 04:39 PM PDT

ATI was the first to demonstrate first DirectX 11 graphics processing unit (GPU) at Computex Taipei trade-show in early June, 2009 but its unclear about the release date. DirectX 11 is the future for games, HD movie quality and rendering high quality images. There has been some reports that ATI may release its chip known under "RV870" and "Evergreen" code-names in September or October, but ATi-Forum.de quotes that the release would be in November.May be they might be in line with Windows 7 when it launches in October 2009.

The key new innovations of DirectX 11 are Compute Shaders, Tessellation, Multi-Threaded Rendering, HDR Compression, Dynamic Shader Linkage and numerous others. The new capabilities will enable richer graphics experience as well as standardized approach for using GPUs for general-purpose computing (GPGPU), which will allow game developers to use graphics chips for computing of artificial intelligence, physics effects and so on.

Despite rumored issues with the yield of the next-gen chip that has high chances to carry Radeon HD 5000-series name, ATI/AMD is confident that it will be the first company on the market with the DirectX 11-supporting hardware.Nvidia, its time to catch up and get some GTX series supporting DirectX 11 and at affordable prices.

Firefox 3.7- New UI Mockups

Posted: 20 Jul 2009 04:00 PM PDT

Recently Firefox released their 3.5 version which had a bug regarding the Trace monkey engine which caused the Critical Vulnerability and later released the 3.51 version to fix it. It hardly few days and no one would expect the fact that the browser would be in the process of upgrade to a higher version.Mozilla wiki has some info on the Mozilla 3.7 and its demo screens. Most important change would be the UI and a new glassy Aero look.

Wiki puts forward some points

  1. Glass Effect : Toolbar and Tabs would be translucent and slightly glossy.Aero style you can say.
  2. Page Button: Connect the Page button to the left side of the tab area.It directly connects to the Page.
  3. Tools/Bookmark Bar: UI can be changed using the tools at the right hand side of the screen. Adding a button next to that to toggle the Bookmarks bar which is turned off by default.

These aren’t the original ones just mock-ups.Check out how they look on Windows 7, Vista and XP.I would love this look on Windows 7.Waiting for 3.7.Bring it on baby.
