Samsung Pixon12 (M8910), the world’s first 12 megapixel camera phone

Posted: 03 Jun 2009 02:00 PM PDT

Samsung Pixon12 12 Megapixel Camera PhoneThe Samsung Pixon12 (M8910) is probably a direct competitor to the soon to be released Idou Satio. It’s equipped with a 3.1-inch AMOLED touchscreen with WVGA resolution. Display contrast is believed to be 10,000:1. That’s even better than some HDTVs!

Of course, it has everything else your beefed-up smartphone has to offer. HSDPA, Bluetooth connectivity, robust multimedia playback, WiFi and GPS receiver.

Another main highlight of the Samsung Pixon12 would be its 12 megapixel camera with both a xenon flash and LED flash. Just in case you’re wondering why it’s the world’s first 12 megapixel camera phone, it’s because it’ll be the first one actually available for purchase because the Sony Ericsson Idou Satio is still months away.

Will the 12 megapixel camera convince you to leave your digital camera in the house? It depends. I honestly cannot stomach taking photos with a mobile phone unless it’s something I quickly need to show somebody when I get home.

The Samsung Pixon12 is scheduled for release in Europe at the end of June 2009. It will start appearing everywhere else in August 2009. Pricing has not been revealed yet.

HTC Touch Pro2 on Hand (Image from pocketnow.com)

If you’re looking for another in-depth review of the HTC Touch Pro2 (other than this Russian-translated one by Mobile-Review), Brandon Miniman of pocketnow.com has recently put up a review.

The pocketnow.com review of the HTC Touch Pro2 is extensively reviewed, spans across four pages and covers everything from the hardware aspect to the software.

Brandon comments that the screen, although resistive, is pretty much close to a capacitive screen’s sensitivity (meaning you don’t have to press as hard as previous PDA phones). If you’re one of those lazy in reading long reviews and just want a quick rundown of whether a product is worthy to be purchased then head to page 4 of the review.

A device this powerful should have a bigger capacity battery. 1500mAh is already huge for other smartphones but this HTC Touch Pro2 just eats out at that battery. Battery manufacturers should definitely find a way to develop higher capacity batteries while retaining the sizes currently used today.

You can order yours now from Nokia USA for $699 (no more free $89 value Bluetooth headset) without contracts, tie-ins/lock-ins. I guess the rumor that the Nokia N97 was getting released sometime in June was in fact, true.

Meanwhile, here’s a video tour of the Nokia N97 by PhoneScoop to get you salivating over the device. If you’re looking for applications, head on over to the recently launched Nokia Ovi Store.

Windows 7 release date confirmed for October 22, 2009

Posted: 03 Jun 2009 07:30 AM PDT

Steve Ballmer / Windows 7

Microsoft’s Windows 7 will be generally available starting October 22, 2009. That’s a day earlier than the release of Acer’s all-in-one Z5600 PC, which is loaded with Windows 7.

As usual, there will be multiple variants of Windows 7. So, be sure you know what you need in order not to overspend for y our particular version of Windows 7. But if money isn’t an object, then getting the Ultimate edition would definitely make you worry about less things.

Will pricing indeed be a hindrance for those wanting to adopt Windows 7? No pricing schemes have been mentioned as of yet.

If you’re itching to try out Windows 7 and don’t want to wait until October 2009, then check out the Release Candidate of the opearting system for now. Oh, and if you’re unsure whether your system can handle Windows 7, the minimum system requirements are listed down here.
