win77 Windows 7 RC goes live on MSDN/TechNet/ConnectFinally the RC is out! The official release of Windows 7 RC is now available on MSDN,TechNet and Microsoft Connect.Microsoft did reveal that it would start serving Windows 7 RC bits via MSDN and TechNet subscribers on April 30, 2009, and the Redmond company managed to live up to its promise. In case you happen to have a MSDN or TechNet subscription or Connect user you will be able to use the links provided below in order to download the fully fledged Windows 7 Release Candidate bits straight from the source.

Members of the MSDN and TechNet networks will be able to grab not only the actual bits of the Windows 7 RC but also product keys designed to activate the development milestone. But the general public will get the bits of RC on May 5th at Microsoft Downloads. So no more moving to torrents after May 5th.

Today at 6 AM Pacific Time when RC was made available, first twenty mins went smooth then for several hours after the official launch, most subscribers who tried to log on found themselves unable to reach the download pages. The error was “Sorry we are unable to service your request”.But ZDNET says that the glitch was caused by a SQL Server database that reached excessive fragmentation levels because of the tremendous surge of queries. The number of requests to the MSDN and TechNet databases in less than an hour was equal to more than a week's traffic under normal circumstances.

After the SQL Server index was rebuilt (just after 9:30AM), processor use dropped back to high but acceptable levels.Currently databases are monitored every 30 mins and plan to rebuild the indexes every evening to avoid a recurrence of the problem.

Software available for download includes Release Candidate versions of Windows 7 (x86 and x64) and Windows Server 2008 R2 (x64 only), with language packs available for German, Spanish, Japanese, and French. An Arabic edition is available for technical beta testers but not for MSDN/TechNet users. All download locations are also offering the beta releases of Windows Virtual PC with XP Mode in x86 and x64 versions, along with debugging tools and symbols for all releases.

Windows 7 RC will expire on March 1, 2010 and after that the system would restart every two hours. The license of windows 7 RC would expire on June 1, 2010.You can take a look at all the features at the RC website.
