| Newspaper-format Kindle DX images leaked Posted: 05 May 2009 09:29 AM PDT We could be about to see new Kindle model designed to read newspapers and magazines and other large-format text publications in the form of the Kindle DX, reports Nilay Patel of Engadget.
(More images on the Engadget site.) The basic specs for the large-format Kindle are:
To help make room for the larger screen the buttons have been squeezed down to the lower margin of the device which may ironically result in worse usability than the current base model. It’s unlikely that you could comfortably read a newspaper on this thing. Much more likely is that the large-screen model is destined for students’ back-packs. Rumours abound of selected students from Case Western University being issued with newer, larger Kindles in the September/October. Pace, Princeton, Reed, Arizona State, and Darden School at the University of Virginia are also said to be in the trial. No price info yet but subscriptions to digital publications such as the New York Times are said to be around $10. More information at tomorrow’s press conference. This story on other sites
