win77 Windows 7 Editions more info revealed.

You might have  read that the two basic versions of Windows 7 viz. Windows 7 Starter and Windows 7  Home Basic do come with some limitations like 3 App limit, no Aero support, touch support for Windows Media Player and more to count on.The other versions Windows 7 Home Premium and Windows 7 professional also have their own set of features but the higher optimised version Windows 7 Ultimate does come with all the features.Lets take a look  more on these as mentioned by Paul Thurrot

  • Windows 7 Starter and Home Basic won’t be coming  with AAC, H.264 or MPEG-2 decoding(DVD playback) and Dolby Digital support. Microsoft may provide upgrades for AAC and H.264 systems to add the support.Codecs are costly so i feel they have been left out.The other versions will be having the support.
  • 4 Gigabytes(GB) of ram are supported by all Windows 7 editions in 32-bit mode. The differences  do exist  in 64-bit mode. Home Basic and Starter support a maximum of 8 Gigabytes, Home Premium 16 Gigabytes and Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise up to 192 Gigabytes of ram.I feel 4 gb is enough for Basic ones.
  • Windows Media Player Remote Media Experience (RME) is not available in Windows 7 Home Basic or Starter. However, all versions can share media over a network.
  • All Windows 7 SKUs support 20 simultaneous SMB connections. This works out to 10 users.
  • Only windows 7 Professional, Ultimate and Enterprise support the Windows XPM(Virtual PC).

Mostly who have netbooks and some limited functionality hardware can go for Windows 7 Basic and Starter Editions.Consumers will be mainly buying Windows 7 Home Premium and Business people will buy Windows 7 Professional. Many few users would go for Ultimate who are in depth love testing and love to explore all the features of it.Enterprise is only available with corporate license agreements.
