lv murakami qr Takashi Murakami and Louis Vuitton make QR codes fun again

Bland, black and white QR codes got you down? Well leave it to artist Takashi Murakami to shake things up. Creative agency SET has laced the psychedelic-anime expert’s playful, colorful imagery into versions of the machine-readable code for Louis Vuitton that — amazingly — still work.

The company has also done similar work for Coca-Cola, though nothing quite as luxuriously squeezable as this multi-colored panda. Now, if someone could just dress up those drab bar codes…

Sonic shoves Qflix DVD burners into more Dell desktops

qflix dell studio configura Sonic shoves Qflix DVD burners into more Dell desktops

We know you’re struggling to believe your eyes, but those Qflix burners actually are still hanging around. For those who missed all the action last year, these devices enable users to download a DRM-laced film onto their PC and burn it onto a specially-keyed DVD for playback. In other words, you can forget about toasting flicks to that dusty stack of DVD-Rs you’ve got laying around from late ‘05.

For whatever reason, Dell has seen fit to extend its partnership with Sonic Solutions by offering internal Qflix drives on the Studio XPS Desktop, Studio XPS 435, Studio Desktop and Studio Slim Desktop. The wild part? Its actually charging more for having you clean out its inventory.

ASUS EeeBox PC B208 with discrete graphics, HDMI-out in June?

ty5egevndfj2cqms 500 ASUS EeeBox PC B208 with discrete graphics, HDMI out in June?

If we’re to believe a pre-sales agent’s response to a query about the availability of the EeeBox PC B208, then ASUS’ little HD nettop with dual-core Atom 330 processor, ATI Radeon HD 4530 graphics, and HDMI-out should pop for retail in June — for the UK anyway.

A box that looks to be the ideal low-cost ($500ish), quiet (26dB), home theater PC riding your in-house 802.11n WiFi or gigabit Ethernet network.With Acer’s Ion-powered AspireRevo hitting the UK in May, ASUS had better hope for a June launch at the latest.

YouTube Starts Rolling Out Video Download Program For Partners

YouTube is trying to find more ways to monetize the popular web service, and recently started a test project with selected partners who were invited to start offering video downloads to interested viewers (they subsequently killed our own download tool, presumably because they want to minimize the risk of losing money on unauthorized download apps). Now it seems the Google-owned online video community site is ready to expand the program to other interested partners based in the U.S. (see screenshot below).

As we noted earlier when we first caught wind of the download service, selected YouTube partners can offer their video downloads for free or for a fee (determined by the partner), paid through Google Checkout. Most videos in the test charge about $1 each. The partner can also decide how the downloadable video will be licensed to the user - whether it will be restricted to a private non-commercial use video, or whether it can be used under Creative Commons.

It's not entirely clear if Google / YouTube is currently taking a cut on the for-fee downloads during the test period, but it will most likely do that at some point if it isn't already.

Recently, Crédit Suisse analyst Spencer Wang estimated that the video site will lose approximately $470 million this year alone (although we should note that another analyst, Youssef Squali from Jefferies & Co., predicted YouTube revenues to amount up $500 million in 2009).

Either way, in this economy, YouTube needs to be monetized as much and as soon as possible, and the video download option is just another way the company hopes to generate income from the popular site. Other steps it has taken up until now include YouTubevertorials, selling search results, and ad revenues from big content partners.

e8d545a21311 Pentax K7D quasi confirmed for May 21, specs and images 'leaked'

We've been tracking the purported new Pentax DSLR for a couple weeks now and sometime last night in Europe an official looking flyer was discovered for the new K from Pentax. We can't really tell anything based on the image, but it's definitely a new body and it's coming on May 21.

Supposed specs for the 'K7D' are as follows:

* Square sensor? 1.3 crop factor.
* A new, overhauled, excellent AF system
* At least 5fps
* 1.0x viewfinder
* 720p video with audio
* 1/8000 shutter
* 2.7 or 3.0 inch VGA res screen

And here are some other purported specs for the new DSLR:

* Same sensor as the K20D
* Up to 6400 ISO with better noise treatment
* 5 images/sec
* 100 % viewfinder
* Better weatherproofing
* Mirror lockup
* Liveview and HD Video
* Better stabilizer .
* Better DRE mode
* 77 zones light metering
* Much better AF system even with non-SDM lenses
* 3 inches/ 920 000 pixels screen with in-body editing (crop…)
* 1/8000 shutter with 1/250 sync

I really hope Pentax comes out with something mind blowing because they could really use it.

Got a bunch of SNES games stuffed in a box somewhere at your ‘rents house? Yeah, I do. Turn ‘em into a rad USB hub with the help of this instructable. Actually, you don’t need the instructable. Here is how you do it.

Rip the innards out of the game. Tear apart this hub and monkey it into place within the empty shell. Reassemble the cartridge. That’s it. Easy, eh? Now go make a bunch of these and sell ‘em on eBay.

order crocbike4 Reflections on a Baby Crocodile Driving a Pink Motorcycle [Art]

Some may frown on this crocodile dying for his art, but mounted on that pink motorbike with the stagnant air in his face, I’d argue he’s living more than most of us.

Priced at a reasonable $122, this (one of a kind? two of a kind? 300 of a kind?) baby croc on a pink bike sculpture will make an inspiring addition to any home. Sure, plop him down as the centerpiece of that Swedish Modern living room. He loves to put on a show for your douchebag friends who couldn’t survive for 10 minutes in the Australian outback. Sure, you can’t pronounce Ubuntu, but the latest release is ready for download anyway. Ubuntu 9.04, aka Jaunty Jackalope, comes with the promise of faster boots, better power management, immediate system access after hibernation, a new system-wide notification service, and broader device support for intelligent switching between WiFi and 3G networks. 9.04 is available in desktop, server, and netbook builds. Right, netbooks, Linux distros run just fine on netbooks regardless of what Microsoft and analysts have to say.

Husqvarna robotic mower will text you problems, twitter rant about you

automower-230-acx

Maintaining a good lawn is a full time job. Husqvarna has a robotic partner that might be able to give homeowners some more free time. First off, the Automower 260 ACX will automatically cut grass, but will also text the owner if there are issues. (the Twitter part was just a joke btw) This way, you don't have to babysit the robot and go about watching the Detroit Tigers crush the Anaheim Angels.

The Automower 260 ACX does a bit more than just cut the grass too. Apparently it also acts as a guard dog against moles, slugs, and other yard destroying pests. The unit is battery powered, but Husqy also launched a similar Automower which is partially solar powered that might not have the text messaging capability. It takes these bots about 45 minutes to mow a moderately complex 1/2 acre. Not too bad, but I like mowing the yard. How about an automatic weed wacking robot. I hate doing that.
