Bing’s US search market share up by 1%

Posted: 04 Aug 2009 02:00 AM PDT

Microsoft's Bing.com Search Engine

A 1% increase may sound puny when it comes to other terms than search engine market share. Microsoft’s search engine, Bing, increased its share from 8.23% to 9.41%. 1% is definitely huge is you think in terms of the world population that uses the internet.

According to StatCounter, Google still dominates the search engine world with 89.23% global market share and 77.54% US market share.

With the recent fusion of Microsoft and Yahoo!, would things possibly turn around? Maybe. Who knows? They still have a long way to go.

Toshiba to unveil world’s first 64GB SDXC card

Posted: 03 Aug 2009 10:45 PM PDT

Toshiba 16GB 32GB SDHC 64GB SDXC Cards

Toshiba is set to market the first ever 64GB SDXC card which will support read speeds of up to 60MB/s and write speeds of up to 35MB/s.

The combination of large storage capacities and increased data transfer rates will meet the needs of a wide range of consumer electronics applications such as digital still cameras and digital camcorders that require high bandwidth data communication. For example, digital SLR cameras will be able to shoot longer continuous bursts in the highest quality RAW format. Similarly, with these cards, it will be possible to download a 2.4GB video in only 70 seconds.

SDHC cards cover the beyond 2GB  until 32GB capacity bracket while SDXC covers above 32GB until 2TB capacity.

Key Features

  • SDXC Memory Card realizes the 64GB capacity, the largest capacity yet available in the market.
  • Supports UHS104, a new ultra high speed interface in the new SD Memory Card Standard Ver. 3.00, which provides 104MB per second bus speed on the SD interface, and realizes maximum write speed of 35MB per sec., with a read speed of 60MB per sec.
  • UHS104 provides the conventional SD interfaces: 3.3V DS (25MHz)/ HS (50MHz) and new SDHC Memory Cards with UHS104 are interoperable with existing SDHC host devices.
  • Integrates highly secure CPRM copy protection technology.

Mass production on these cards is set to start on Spring 2010. Expect these cards to show up sometime after that. Toshiba is also set to intro 16GB and 32GB SDHC cards along with the 64GB SDXC.

Although not many devices support the SDXC standard as of today, Panasonic will reportedly support SDXC for its upcoming gizmos and gadgets. Pretec was the first to launch a 32GB SDXC card. Do remember that SDXC is not backwards compatible with either SD and SDHC devices.
