Next-gen iPhone 5 to come with a Dual Core processor,iPad 2 to come with a SD card slot

Are you waiting for the Verizon iPhone 4 ? Are you dying to get your hands on one then hold on for a moment, why not check out the the next-gen iPhone 5 has to offer to you.According to the latest batch of rumours, the iPhone 5 will have a new A5 multi-core processor (based on Cortex A9). For graphics,  the iPhone 5 will use the PowerVR SGX543 by Imagination Technologies according to the clues which was found in the bits of iOS 4.3 beta.Engadget received some concrete from it’s reliable sources about the next gen iPhone5 as well as iPad 2 and the second iteration of  Apple TV.

According to Engadget sources iPhone 5 is headed for a summer launch.Right now, the device is being tested discreetly by senior staff at Apple (strictly on campus only). This will feature a Qualcomm chipset that does triple duty as the CDMA / GSM / UMTS baseband processor.

It seems likely that iPad 2 will land around April  and we are already seeing the likes of Best Buy list models internally for $599.99 and $699.99.(perfectly timed with the 12-month product cycle Apple enjoys). And what about that device? From what they have been told, the thinner, sleeker tablet will sport a new screen technology that is akin to (though not the same as) the iPhone 4’s Retina Display and will be “super high-resolution” (unlike reports to the contrary). The device will remain at 10 inches but will now feature both front and rear cameras (not a huge surprise), and… there’s an SD slot. That’s right — our sources say with near certainty that the device will have a dedicated SD slot built-in (with no  traditional USB slot). In fact, see that weird notch in the photo below? That’s where the SD part will be located.

The new iPad 2 will feature(in addition to the speculation about a 2048 x 1536 screen resolution and twin cameras) a dual GSM / CDMA chipset produced by Qualcomm and will mark Apple’s shift away from Infineon as its chipset maker to Qualcomm for all of its mobile devices. It’s not clear if the chipset being used will be based on the company’s EV-DO / HSPA Gobi variety or an entirely new design. Presumably, the strength of the new dual-mode chipset is that it will allow both Verizon and AT&T to offer the iPad simultaneously. So a Qualcomm chip will handle both CDMA and GSM networks.

The original iPad popularized the tablet form factor, and now that competitors like RIM, LG, Samsung, and Motorola  are catching on, Apple has some territory to defend. iOS 4.3 looks pretty damned cool, with a variety of multitouch gestures which hearkens to the Mac experience, and plugging holes like a front-facing camera for video calling is a no-brainer. I'm curious to see just how much more horsepower these new chips will provide the iPad, and what kind of doors that opens for the rich iOS app environment.

Apple is at work on the second generation of its redesigned Apple TV, which will include that new A5 processor. The CPU is said to be blazingly fast, cranking out 1080p video “like running water.” It’s likely that the A5 will make it into the iPad 2 as well, but waiting for a confirmation though.
