The video embedded below shows root access through the SHAtter exploit, and now we just have to wait for the Dev-Team to come up with some solution to install Cydia and run unapproved software on the new device.

Google Expands Paid Android Apps to 20 More Countries

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:26 AM PDT

Google's is really serious about boosting the appeal of the Android developer ecosystem. The company's newest move — to triple the number of countries where developers can sell their paid applications.Starting off with today, the Android Market (Android Market) will support the selling of paid apps for 20 new countries, bringing the total to 29. According to the Android Developers Blog, the new countries include Argentina, Australia (Australia), Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Denmark, Finland, Hong Kong, Ireland, Israel, Mexico, New Zealand, Norway, Portugal, Russia, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, Switzerland and Taiwan.

android marketplace Google Expands Paid Android Apps to 20 More Countries

To support this expansion, Google (Google) will make it possible for Android Market users in 18 new countries over the next two weeks, bringing the total number of nations that support app purchases to 32. Yes, there are more countries that support app purchases than ones that support the selling of paid apps, likely due to a combination of varying national laws on selling software and geographic restrictions to Google Checkout.

Whatever it is this expansion is good for the Android Market. While Android (Android) sales may be outpacing those of the iPhone, developers still prefer the iOS App Store (App Store) overall because its users simply purchase more apps. Expanding the pool of potential customers should go a long way towards making the Android Marketplace an even more attractive destination for developers.

AT&T launching Windows phone 7 handsets on November 8th unveiling them October 11

Posted: 01 Oct 2010 06:16 AM PDT

Previously I had posted about HTC Mondrian the Windows phone 7 – here is some more info.Microsoft Corp. will formally unveil a lineup of Windows phone 7 series phones on Oct. 11, and AT&T Inc. will begin offering them four weeks later(Nov 8th), according to people familiar with the launch plans. The launch—centered in New York with satellite events elsewhere—is crucial for Microsoft, which has been battered by Apple Inc.’s iPhone and a wave of flashier consumer friendly devices using Google Inc.’s Android mobile software.

This is critical to Microsoft’s overall business,” said Avi Greengart, who follows consumer electronic devices for research firm Current Analysis. “They are being badly outflanked right now by their competitors.”

AT&T plans to sell the devices the week of Nov. 8. Initially, the carrier will offer three handsets—one each made by Samsung Electronics Co.(Cetus i917), LG Electronics Inc.(LG c900), and HTC Corp.—as it looks to diversify its portfolio of mobile devices beyond the iPhone. In exchange for that little favor, Microsoft will receive AT&T’s “marketing support” in pushing the message out about Windows Phone 7’s release.

It has been a long, hard stumble for Microsoft, which boasted a strong early presence in smart phones. The company’s Windows Mobile operating system was commonly found in the smart phones used by the corporate crowd only a few years ago. But the emergence of the iPhone in 2007 forced other smart phone platforms to step up their game, and Microsoft failed to materially update its software and fell behind.n the past year, Microsoft’s share of the smartphone operating system market has nearly halved, falling to 5% in the second quarter from 9.3% a year ago, according to Gartner.

Android has since replaced Microsoft as the mobile operating system of choice for handset vendors that don’t already have their own proprietary software. Motorola Inc., for instance, has built its turnaround on its early embrace of Android. And while Samsung, LG and HTC have committed to making Windows Phone 7 devices, all of them have a much larger presence in Android.

Windows Phone 7, which takes its inspiration from the user experience found in the Zune portable media player, represents Microsoft’s chance to start over with a new platform. Microsoft has had strict guidelines on the specifications of the devices, which would place them among the higher end of smart phones. After Microsoft’s own attempt to create a youth-oriented mobile device the Kin failed, Microsoft hopes to come back to the arena with a bang.

But by starting over, Microsoft faces several challenges. The company has to convince developers that its platform will make an attractive market for thousands of apps that have driven the success of the iPhone and Android smart phones. Like Apple, the company is insisting on a closed, controlled system where applications can only be sold through the Windows Marketplace.

“The developers are being pushed and pulled in several different directions,” said Patrick Morck, chief marketing officer for online app store GetJar Inc.

Microsoft, however, has been enticing app developers for months in preparation. The company also promises to integrate features and games from its Xbox Live online gaming service.

Bumpers returning to Apple stores today

Posted: 30 Sep 2010 11:11 PM PDT

There was this stoppage of bumpers few weeks back and now according to some inside reports from Apple sources, Apple Stores across the nation will begin to start selling iPhone 4 Bumper cases again tomorrow, Friday October 1st. All Bumper colors will be available starting tomorrow in both Apple's online and retail stores. The Bumpers will be sold at their $29.00 price point and some stores may only have limited quantities. Note that colors will be subject to availability so it's possible that your local store will not have all six colors tomorrow. The main thing going on here is that you will finally be able to get a Bumper in any color you like, not just black. Hopefully for that $29 Apple will be selling the Bumpers in their usual packaging, not plastic bags.
