Windows 7 in Europe comes with full, upgrade and family pack editions

Posted: 25 Aug 2009 04:35 AM PDT

Microsoft confirmed that the upgrade editions of Windows 7 will be available in Europe when windows 7 goes worldwide on October 22.Previously they announced that only full versions would be made available.Because previous versions of Windows all contain Internet Explorer, Microsoft argued that there could not be upgraded to a version without the browser. However, they have since decided to instead introduce a ballot screen for consumers to choose which browser they want to use, meaning that the idea of Windows 7 E was scrapped.

In a posting at the Windows 7 Team Blog, Brandon LeBlanc confirms that countries in the EU will receive the same version of Windows 7 that is available to the rest of the world. He also states that because upgrade editions will be on offer in Europe, Microsoft will now also be selling the Windows 7 Family Pack – which contains upgrade editions – in selected European countries.

Microsoft also clarified customers who have already pre-ordered the now-defunctional Windows 7 E. These consumers will be shipped a full versions of Windows 7, as will anybody who pre-orders before September 1st when the upgrade editions will start to become available for pre-order.This finally seems to be some good news for any Europeans wanting to do an upgrade-install of Windows 7 from an earlier version of the Windows OS.But there is no news of having these for Indian subcontinent.Gotta wait i suppose.

Nokia uneveils Booklet 3G mini

In the race of netbook manufacturers,Nokia also joins in by uneveiling the Booklet 3G the miniature version of the netbook.3G feature has been added to the netbook and it comes with 12 hrs of battery life when in 3G.It weighs around 1.25 kgs and only 2cm thick with an aluminum chassis and no points on guessing which Operating System it comes with.Yes, u guessed it right its Windows 7.The netbook also has a 10.1-inch glass HD-ready display, and has an HDMI output for HD video playback. The body has 3 USB 2.0 ports, and an SD card sot. Bluetooth comes standard, and there's even a front-facing webcam to take care of all your video calling needs.

The mini-laptop or netbook will ship with WiFi-enabled ready for Internet usage. The netbook will also have an integrated A-GPS working on Ovi Maps allows for pinpoint navigation. It's described as having an Intel Atom processor, but it's not clear if we're talking about a low power Intel Atom Z520 CPU, a more common Atom N270, or an upcoming Atom Pine Trail processor. The fact that the netbook has an HDMI output sort of rules out the Atom N270 unless there's also a dedicated graphics processor.

The netbook is said to come with an easily accessible SD Card reader, a HDMI port for HD video out, a front facing camera for video chat, integrated Bluetooth adapter, all enclosed in the 10-inch glass HD ready display.Nokia will also be offering its Nokia Music Store for playback of millions of tracks for on-the-go entertainment, or using the Ovi Suite to sync your mobile smartphone with the netbook.

Take a look at some pics and if you notice carefully they are so glossy and shinny looks like some one photo shopped it but reuters say that these are indeed real.[Via Slashgear and liliputting]

As seen in another photo, the model sports the blue lid, and just so you’re absolutely clear how a 10.1-inch netbook sizes up to an actual phone. For more pics check out Nokia Conversations

The Nokia Booklet 3G will be announced on September 2, 2009 at the Nokia World show.
