Posted: 29 Nov 2010 01:40 AM PST

Gingerbread the next Android release is creating a lot of hype these days and a spec or rumors seem to be lingering here and there along with the release date expected to be November 11th.Latest update is Gingerbread ported on Nexus One.Some guys from Google seem to playing and testing with it.Android benchmark app AIRBench has a record of a benchmark test carried out from a Nexus One running Gingerbread. Since it is a benchmark record, it is pretty much legit. Though Adobe Air isn't something of a much importance for a regular user, it is however interesting to know that most of the test results are very much positive and satisfactory. So expect an increased performance on your Nexus One with Gingerbread. Will Nexus S be released earlier or the Gingerbread for Nexus One ? Stay tuned !

AirVideoEnabler hack brings AirPlay video to the rest of your apps

Posted: 28 Nov 2010 06:34 PM PST

Apple’s new AirPlay video streaming feature is great… unless you want to use it in a non-Apple app. I am not sure what is the reason, Apple is restricting AirPlay video to just its first party apps right now, and not even all of those (Safari is left out, for instance). Interestingly, Apple actually built the functionality in, it’s just not enabled. Thanks to some “spelunking” work by TUAW’s Erica Sadun, it was discovered that a single line of code is all that’s necessary to spread the feature to any app that relies on Apple’s MediaPlayer framework, including VLC, AirVideo, and even Safari. Now Zone-MR has built a hack called AirVideoEnabler and put it on Cydia, allowing you to bring this functionality to your own jailbroken iPad. For the hack-averse, let’s hope Apple catches up in functionality soon.

The expectation is that Orange’s new best bud, T-Mobile, will be offering similar pricing shortly, leaving us to wonder what Vodafone and O2 might be cooking up. Three, the UK’s 3G-only network, is also planning to sell the iPad “in the coming months.” The Pricing and data allowances, however, have yet to be revealed. If all the come up with similar pricing strategy then day of subsidized tablet might be sooner than we thought.

Android 2.1 rolling out to Sony Ericcson Xperia X8, depending on product code

Posted: 28 Nov 2010 09:05 AM PST

Are you the owner of Sony Erriccson’s Xperia X8, then you might be in luck as Android 2.1 is rolling out based on product codes.Sony Ericsson is starting to push Android 2.1(Eclair) to the handset.News is that Thirty-two tasty batches of Eclair are already in the oven, and you can easily check to see if you’re a lucky candidate for upgrade by scanning the back of your phone. If your eight-digit “SI-number” (e.g. 1242-4859) matches any of those listed on Sony Ericcson product blog then you can unlock 720p video recording mode, enhanced social networking integration and five homescreens. AT&T members don’t necessarily expect to see them anytime soon.

Based on previously leaked Intel’s roadmap it was posted that Core i7-2630QM chip would be out soon, but guess it’s coming soon perhaps. From the provisional component list for an update to HP’s gaming laptop, it shows the quad core i7- 263QM listed.With regards to this matter neither HP nor Intel has said anything official on the matter.Laptoping did some research and found some listings at online retailers for laptops from Gateway and Lenovo also offering the still unannounced part.

We know how badly Intel wants to showcase the Sandy bridge processor line up in CES 2011 but it’s reassuring to see vendors looking eager and ready so far in advance of the launch date. What this meaans is there should be not shortage of the processors and this news will be only confirmed when Paul Otellini finally steps to the stage and makes things officially official.

Sony aims to control half of Japan’s e-reader market by 2012

Posted: 28 Nov 2010 03:57 AM PST

We know how Sony has more exposure  when in comes to Walkmans in Japan, it’s a little surprising to think that Sony has been all but silent regarding the Japanese e-reader market. We heard back in May that the mega-corp was planning an e-reader launch in Japan by the year’s end, aiming to build out an elaborate e-book distribution platform with local telecom operator KDDI.

Fast forward a few months, and it seems as if thing’s are finally falling into place. New reports are suggesting that the 5- and 6-inch Sony Reader devices will be on sale in Japan on December 10th, with pricing set for ¥20,000 ($237) / ¥25,000 ($297), respectively. Additionally, it’s planning to crack the seal on an online e-bookstore with around 20,000 titles, and that one should be ready to roll prior to the “year-end shopping rush.” Perhaps more stunning, however, is Sony’s intentions to “sell 300,000 Readers in the first year and win half the domestic market by 2012″ — that’s according to Sony Marketing Japan president Nobuki Kurita. That’s a bold statement !
